Sullivan Finishes Third In Class 3

Sullivan took third place Friday in Class 3 with a 6-2 win over Hillsboro at Killian Softball Complex.

The Lady Eagles (28-5) had play a little more than 40 minutes after falling to Mexico in the semifinal.

Seniors Abbey Daniel, Madison Decker, Kamryn Lohden and Kylee Thomure played their final games for the program, having been a part of four district championship teams, the 2016 Class 3 runner-up and now the 2018 Class 3 third-place squad.

Lohden homered and drove in three runs. Daniel had a pair of singles and drove in a run. Decker and Thomure each had hits. Thomure doubled.

Hanna Johanning had three hits, while Hannah Cox and Madyson Stahl each had two hits. Addison Purvis singled.

Purvis took the circle and struck out 10. She allowed nine hits and one walk.

She ran into trouble in the first by giving up base hits to Bailey Shuman and Emma Nichols, but avoided damage by striking out the side.

Purvis led off with a single and was replaced by Reagan Thomure. Thomure stole second and third, then scored on a single by Cox.

Sullivan added on in the third when Lohden pounded a two-run homer to left that scored Johanning. Nichols walked Daniel and hit Kloey Blanton with a pitch, but she struck out the next two batters.

Hillsboro would cut into the lead with a two-out, two-run single by Reagan Short.

Sullivan got one of the runs back in the fifth when Decker reached on an error at short that allowed Grace Glaser to score.

They posted two more runs in the seventh. Johanning singled and Cox doubled, then Lohden lifted a sacrifice fly. Daniel bounced a single past Jensen Knudtson to give Sullivan a 6-2 lead.
