Sullivan Extends Winning Streak At Lutheran South

Sullivan allowed more runs Monday at Lutheran South than all other games combined during their winning streak, but it didn’t matter.

Behind two home runs from Morgan Bobbitt and a homer and four other hits from Addison Purvis, the Lady Eagles won their 14h straight game in a 10-5 decision.

Going into Monday’s game, Sullivan had allowed just four runs in their previous 13 games. The Lancers had 11 hits against Purvis. Only three of the runs were charged to Purvis, who struck out nine against one walk.

Bobbitt hit her fourth and fifth home runs respectively. Both were solo shots. Hannah Cox had three hits, while Hanna Johanning and Kamryn Lohden both had two. Abbey Daniel, Madison Decker and Emma Weirich all picked up hits.

Sullivan scored runs in the first four innings, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before the Lancers halved the lead in the fifth.

The Lady Eagles scored six of their runs with two outs.

Johanning’s one-out RBI single in the first gave Sullivan a 1-0 lead. Bobbitt led off the second with a solo homer to left. Daniel drew a walk and advanced to second on a bunt single by Weirich. With two outs, Purvis hit an opposite field double to left, clearing the bases and putting Sullivan up 4-0.

Bobbitt popped another solo homer with two outs in the third. An inning later, Purvis doubled with two outs. Reagan Thomure was sent in as a courtesy runner and she scored on Cox’s single up the middle, extending Sullivan’s lead to 6-0.

Lutheran South would finally get the bats going in the fifth. Mikayla Nichols and Abby Frankenreiter led off with singles, then Amelia Stone doubled to center, making it 6-1. Meghan Acheson dropped in a single to right to score another run. Lauren Beier flew into a double play that scored Stone, but Bobbitt threw out Acheson, who was trying to take second.

Sullivan got all three runs back in the top of the sixth. Lohden’s bunt single scored Thomure for a 7-3 lead. With two outs, Daniel was hit by a pitch. Decker reached on an error at shortstop to score Mady Stahl. Lohden later scored on a passed ball.

Purvis set down the Lancers in order in the sixth, then led off the seventh with her 10th home run of the season.

Lutheran South tried to make a late rally. Nichols reached on an error to begin the seventh. Frankenreiter singled and with one out, Acheson’s infield single loaded the bases. Another error with Beir batting scored Nichols. A passed ball brought in Frankenreiter. Purvis put the game away with strikeouts of Lilah Halveland and Chloe Akerson.
