Sullivan Edged By Waynesville In Season Opener

Sullivan's volleyball team fell 21-25, 25-10, 23-25 in their season opener at Waynesville on Tuesday.

Lady Eagles head coach Sarah Rochleau said the game was frustrating.

"We had numerous opportunities to win that match," she said. "We got out to a pretty nice lead in the first set and let that one get away."

Rochleau said her team dominated Waynesville in the second set and were up 22-18 in the third, but couldn't close it out.

"We could put anything together to finish them off," she said. "I think some of it was some first game jitters and just the inability to finish the game."

Despite the loss, she said Sullivan had some positives, including 13 aces from the service line.

Lauren Hoffman and Mallory Shetley led the way with four each. Riley Lock had two. Alex Blankenship, Avery Carey and Katie Creek each had one.

Hoffman had 10 points, four kills and 18 assists. Shetley had six points, five kills, three blocks and two assists.

Blankenship had eight points, five kills and a block. Creek had five points, two kills and an assist. Carey had three points and an assist. Lock had three points and four kills.

Sullivan defeated Whitfield in three sets on Friday, but stats were unavailable at press time.
