Sullivan Downs Affton For 11th Straight Win

Affton’s Addison Missler didn’t even move two steps towards the fence.

The Cougars’ centerfielder seemed to know right away she wasn’t retrieving a fly ball off the bat of Addison Purvis.

Missler just watched as Purvis connected for her eighth home run of the season — a first inning, two-run shot off Emelie Mandernach that would be the first blow in a 10-0 win for the Lady Eagles on Monday.

Sullivan (17-2) was victorious for the 11th straight game and the numbers remain ever so lopsided. The Lady Eagles outscored opponents 129-5 with seven shutouts through Monday.

Purvis was again dominant in the circle, striking out 13 batters in five innings. It was another no-hitter for Sullivan's sophomore, who allowed just two baserunners. Gabby Johnson hit a grounder that glanced off Purvis’ glove and slowed down enough for her to reach safely in the second. She also walked a batter in the third.

Through three innings, Sullivan led 3-0. After allowing a leadoff single to Kloey Blanton and Purvis’ homer, Mandernach started to settle down. Her defense let her down when Hanna Johanning stole second with two outs and Morgan Bobbitt batting. The ball rolled past second base and past Missler, giving Johanning time to score without a contested play at home.

Sullivan took a 3-0 lead, but went down scoreless in the second and third.

In the fourth, Sullivan opened with singles by Johanning and Lohden. Bobbitt’s RBI groundout gave Sullivan a 4-0 lead, then Abbey Daniel blooped a single between second base and right field that Affton couldn’t make a play on scoring Lohden.

Madison Decker drew a walk and Emma Weirich reached on a bunt to load the bases for Blanton. Blanton rocked the first pitch she saw into the left-center gap, easily clearing the bases for an 8-0 lead.

Purvis roped a single to center that scored Blanton. The lineup swung back around to Johanning, who delivered her third hit of the game, scoring Reagan Thomure. Sullivan took a 10-0 lead and after Purvis struck out the side in the fifth, clinched another win.
