Sullivan Crushes Cor Jesu For Third Place

Sullivan trailed through the first four innings of Saturday’s third-place game at the Summit Softball Tournament, but exploded for four runs in the fifth, six in the sixth and tacked on four more in the seventh to register a 14-2 victory.

Sullivan (7-2) finished off a weekend of mashing. They scored 37 runs in the first two games of the tournament and after being slowed down by Liberty North, bounced back to end the tournament with a total of 53 runs.

Kamryn Lohden homered and had four RBIs to lead the offensive charge. Kloey Blanton, Hannah Cox and Hanna Johanning each had three hits. Blanton was 3-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Cox was 3-4 and drove in three. Johanning was 3-5 with two doubles. She also scored twice and had an RBI.

Addison Purvis was 2-3 with two walks and a triple. Morgan Bobbitt singled and scored twice. Emma Weirich had two singles and scored. Kylee Thomure was 1-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Abbey Daniel singled.

Purvis started and went seven innings. She struck out six against just four hits and a walk. Only one of the two runs were earned.

Liberty North

Liberty North jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first innings and held on 7-2 to deal Sullivan their only loss of the tournament.

Sullivan cut into the lead with a run in the third, but Liberty answered back with two more in the bottom half and held on.

The Lady Eagles had six hits, one each from Purvis, Cox, Lohden, Daniel, Johanning and Weirich.

Cox doubled and drove in a run. Lohden had Sullivan’s only other RBI.

Purvis pitched six innings and struck out five. She allowed just four earned runs and didn’t walk a batter.
