Sullivan Boys Finish Third At Wright City Tournament

An impromptu trip to Wright City didn’t derail Sullivan’s boys wrestling team.

The Eagles, who were originally scheduled to wrestle at Owensville, saw their plans change after the tournament was canceled.

An opportunity arose for the Eagles at Wright City and they took advantage.

Sullivan finished third among 10 teams with 141 points on Saturday at the tournament.

Dillon Witt (126) and Ty Shetley (152) topped the podium for the Eagles.

Witt dominated his foes on the way to winning his 150th career match.

Only one of his matches went past the first round and he improved to 18-0.

Witt scored pins over all five opponents, culminating with a pin of Fulton’s Kaden Barnes in just 1:41 to win the title.

Shetley conquered his weight class with two falls and a 3-1 decision.

He pinned Fulton’s Talon McKinney and edged out Warrenton’s Anthony Lombardo.

After two medical forfeits, Shetley was in the final match against Mexico’s Terrell Williams. He pinned Williams at 4:21, improving to 20-1 this season.

Dominic Ransom (120) finished second place, going 3-2. He won his first match by fall at 2:41, but was pinned by Mexico’s Ricardo Jaurez. Ransom received a bye into the championship bracket where he won a 12-5 decision. Facing Jaurez again, Ransom was pinned at 2:00.

Bennett Sherrell (170) took third, splitting four matches. Both of his wins came by fall.

Jeremiah Rodriguez (285) also took third. He closed out the day with falls over Mexico’s Emille Scanavino and Warrenton’s Josh Napier.

Johnson Johnson (106), Ethan Hurt (160) and Kyler Martin (220) each finished fourth.

Johnson had a pair of wins over Landon Scott of Wright City and Keegan Koons of Mexico.

Hurt started out the day with a victory over Winfield’s Brandon Martinek, but he lost by a 6-2 decision in his next match and was forced to withdraw from his final two matches due to a medical forfeit.

Martin won his first two matches by fall, but lost his final three.

Colton Brendel (145) took fifth, pinning Mexico’s Cameron Beasley and Fulton’s Nick Ash by fall.

Jordan Rice also came in fifth. He ended his day with a fall over Mexico’s Morgan Grubb.

Kane Strehl (195) finished fifth as well. Strehl pinned Mexico’s Caleb Prater at 2:51 in his last match.

Adam Peregoy (138) came in sixth in what looked to be one of the most competitive classes. While he was winless on the day, the freshman was able to grind out decision losses in two of his matches.

Sam Hect (132) came in seventh, but picked up two byes and netted the Eagles two points.
