Sullivan Advances To District Championship
It's familiar territory for Sullivan.
With a 7-0 win Thursday against Salem, the Lady Eagles are headed to the Class 3 District 9 championship — the 19th straight season the program will play for a district title. Sullivan is looking for their 10th straight district championship and must defeat Helias (21-5) on Friday at 5 p.m.
This is the third straight year the schools will play in an elimination game. In 2015, the Crusaders edged out Sullivan in sectionals, while Sullivan pulled off an upset in the district championship last season.
Sullivan (25-2) is riding high on a 19-game winning streak that extends to Aug. 26. While Salem took the Lady Eagles seven innings, Sullivan’s power was the difference. Addison Purvis and Hannah Cox each hit two-run homers.
Purvis struck out 18 batters and recorded her 11th shutout of the season.
Helias defeated Southern Boone 2-1 in the other semifinal game.
