St. Clair Drops Sullivan In OT

Close losses continue to follow the Eagles around.

Playing in their home finale on Monday, Sullivan fell to St. Clair 2-1 in overtime as Brandon Barnes scored seven minutes into the extra time.

One day later, the Eagles were handed another 2-1 loss, this time to the Union Wildcats.

It added up to four straight one-goal defeats for Sullivan. The Eagles were looking to secure a victory in one of their final two games of the regular season — either Tuesday at Pacific or Thursday at St. Francis Borgia.

Monday’s game against St. Clair was the second straight where the Eagles have went into overtime, following a loss to Warrenton on penalty kicks Oct. 15.

Sullivan took a 1-0 lead in the first half on Charlie Lohden’s goal, which was assisted by Jacob Brooks.

But the Bulldogs would climb back late. Zach Browne tied the game and Barnes booted the game-winner.

Andrew Starr played 72 minutes in goal, but left the game and was replaced by Seth Dautenhahn. Starr made eight saves and held the Bulldogs scoreless.

Jensen Beckemeier took over for Collin Thacker as goalkeeper and recorded 14 saves in 87 minutes.

Union

Sullivan and Union were scoreless through the first half on Tuesday, but Union answered midway through the second and posted a 2-1 victory.

Lohden had the Eagles’ only goal, which came with the team down 2-0 late.

Will Herbst put the Wildcats on the board and Daniel Thwing’s goal just minutes later stood as the difference.

Starr returned to the net and stopped 13 of 15 shots.

The Eagles were only able to put three shots on net against Union’s Ian Meyer.
