St. Charles West Stymies Eagles

St. Charles West held Sullivan to just five points in the second quarter on Friday and picked up just enough offense along the way to send the Eagles to a 43-37 defeat.

After jumping out to a 10-7 lead early, the Eagles (5-4) struggled for baskets and fell for the third straight game.

Dillon Farrell and Owen Farrell each scored 13 points, but on a night where Sullivan had just 11 field goals, it wasn’t enough.

Jordan Woodcock scored four points, while Josh Wiese and Austin Orick had three. Kolton Keen added one.

Josh Newell led the way for St. Charles West with 12 points. The Warriors shot just 40 percent from the field. They bricked 16 of 21 3-point attempts and finished 6-for-13 at the free throw line.

Warriors big John Wilson recorded a double-double, dropping in 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Taileon Smith scored 10 points and Anthony Lemons dropped in five points with five rebounds and four steals.

The Eagles were trying to reverse a two-game skid and Friday’s loss was the first three-game losing streak for the program since February 2018. That Sullivan team also was finding its way through some growing pains.

And much like their predecessors, Sullivan flashed potential on Friday. Their 10-7 lead was turned around following a 13-5 run by the Warriors in the second quarter. Down 18-15 at the break, they got the offense back on track, but trailed 31-29 after three periods.

West would hang on by outscoring Sullivan 10-8 in the fourth quarter.
