Shetley, Witt Win Titles At Liberty Tournament

Evan Shetley earned his second championship of the season and Dillon Witt claimed his first Saturday at the Liberty Tournament in Wentzville.

As a team, the Eagles finished fourth despite filling only seven of the weight classes.

Shetley won the 182-pound title and remains unbeaten at 12-0 this season.

Witt took the 106-pound title and improved to 12-1.

Ian Kilburn and Isaac Peregoy finished second respectively in the 160-pound and 170-pound weight classes.

Kobie Blankenship took third in the 152-pound class. Ty Shetley was fourth at 126 pounds. Trey Eplin was sixth at 195 pounds.

Evan Shetley continued his dominant start with two pins in the first three rounds. He brought down Festus’ Jacob Cortez in 2:47, received a second-round bye and pinned Mexico’s Pablo Vasquez in 2:20. With an 8-2 decision over Centralia’s Quentin Foster, he moved on to the championship round where he won a 5-3 decision against St. Charles’ Treyvon Ward.

Witt breezed his way through the first two rounds, picking up pins against Dexter’s Brett Frizzell in 1:17 and St. Charles’ David Thorne in 25 seconds. He pinned Ritenour’s Anthony Chrunn in 3:36 and Zumwalt East’s Joseph Beck in 2:26. Against Mexico’s Keith Ransom in the championship round, he won a 3-0 decision.

Kilburn pinned Zumwalt East’s Sean Wachter in the first round and had a bye in the second. He won by fall over Dexter’s Alex Townsend in 3:21. He won a 7-2 decision against Mexico’s Blayne Wieberg, then lost the title match to Centralia’s Grafton Littrell.

Peregoy won by major decision against Centralia’s Luke Hunter. He pinned Pattonville’s Mason Murphy in 1:02. He quickly pinned Liberty’s Evan McCulloch, earning a fall at 1:13. Peregoy won an 11-7 decision against Central New Madrid’s Jacob Wicker. Up against Hannibal’s Vernell Hawkins, he lost by a 13-7 decision.

Blakenship won his first match of the day, pinning Centralia’s Anthony Stevens. He lost to Hannibal’s Garrett Ruby by fall. He won by technical fall against Dexter’s Wyatt Chastain and lost to Liberty’s Trentin Helton. In the third place match, he won a 7-2 decision against Festus’ Luke Shaver.

Ty Shetley had a first-round bye and a pin against St. Charles’ Spencer Drazic. He was pinned by Festus’ Andrew Nahlik and lost a decision to Zumwalt East’s Shakboz Hasanov. Dexter’s Dawson Jones defeated him by technical fall in the third place match.

Eplin fell to Centralia’s Trevor Bodine, St. Charles Michael Smith and Hannibal’s Adriec Brumbaugh, but he pinned Festus’ Justus Labrayer with one second on the clock. He lost a 3-1 decision to Brumbaugh in the consolation match.
