Shetley Wins State Title, Brown Finishes Second
In a season that established new benchmarks and raised Sullivan's wrestling profile around the state, it was only fitting that Saturday would further a history-making campaign.
Senior Evan Shetley pulled out a 3-2 decision against Odessa's Jake Evinger to win the Class 2 182-pound weight class, giving the Eagles their first state champion.
Shetley's final high school match went down to the wire as he held off Evinger in the final seconds. He finishes as a three-time all-state wrestler.
Tristan Brown was looking to become Sullivan's second state champion, but Monett's Harrison Merriman pulled out a 2-1 decision.
Brown ends his career as a two-time all-state wrestler.
