Shetley, Brown Finish All-State

Evan Shetley and Tristan Brown brought home all-state wrestling honors Saturday after finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the Class 2 tournament.

For Shetley, it was his second all-state achievement after finishing fourth last year as well.

The Eagles finished 17th in the Class 2 standings and had 10 wrestlers compete

Shetley (182) won his first two matches, pinning Chillicothe’s Donald McCracken and St. Charles West’s Tristan Hachtel.

He fell short against Eldon’s Dawson Brandt in the semifinal by a 6-4 decision and had to go through wrestlebacks. Against Buffalo’s Peter Herrera, he won a 9-3 decision to face Hachtel a second time. Hachtel came out ahead by a 5-3 decision to win third.

Brown (285) took his first match against Moberly’s Tyler Nickerson by fall, then lost to Nevada’s Caleb Longobardi. He picked up wins against Sumner’s Lorenzo Jenkins and Boonville’s Dalton Williams to land in the consolation semifinals against Hollister’s Dylan Barber. By a 10-5 decision, Brown fell and moved to the fifth place match. He was pinned by Ste. Genevieve’s Clayton Vaughn.

Dillon Witt (106), Ty Shetley (126), Kobie Blankenship (145) and Isaac Peregoy (160) all had victories during the three-day tournament.

Witt, Shetley and Blankenship all finished on the cusp of wrestling for at worst sixth, but were stopped just short.

Witt won his first match against Odessa’s Dalton Coe, but lost by a 4-2 decision to Mexico’s Keith Ransom. He won by 7-0 decision against Winfield’s Matthew Hornbeck, but lost in the second round of wrestlebacks to Landen Davis of Excelsior Springs by a 2-0 decision.

Ty Shetley took a sudden victory against Fulton’s Eston Dews 9-7, but he lost to Monett’s Matthew Bahl by fall. He defeated Trevor Johnson of Lafayette St. Joseph by fall, but lost a 3-0 decision to Maryville’s Kade Wilmes.

Blankenship ran up against Pleasant Hill’s Gabe Hodge in the first round and took a fall, but bounced back to defeat Nick Voss of St. Pius X and Connor Weiss of Maryville. He was opposed by Grant Staffen from St. Genevieve in the elimination match and lost by fall.

Peregoy won his first match, a 9-5 decision against St. Charles West’s Alex Meyer, but he was defeated by fall against Jake Evinger of Odessa and bowed out with an 11-3 loss to Gaven Gray-Walker of Maryville.

Sullivan’s first-timers found difficulties.

Joseph Lewis (120) was pinned by Karter Brink of Monett and Connor Keithley of Chillicothe. Jonathan Krygiel (138) lost by fall to Benton’s Cristian Dixon and Kirksville’s Luca Tornatore. Trey Eplin (170) lost by fall to Hunter Phillips of Centralia and by decision to Keegan Reynolds of Cameron. Trevor Hamblin (220) lost by fall to Bolivar’s Drayton Huchteman and Fulton’s Steven Johnson.
