Senior Night Ends Right For Lady Eagles

Sullivan’s seniors went out on top Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles slugged their way past Washington 10-0 on senior night, extending their dominance at Bank of Sullivan Ballpark.

The class of 2020 were freshmen when Sullivan (20-5) moved their games from Campbell Chapman to the high school campus in 2016.

They have lost just one game on their home turf since then, which was a 3-1 defeat against Rock Bridge on September 10, 2018.

Sullivan also secured their fourth straight 20-win season, likely a program record.

Sullivan’s seniors teed off Tuesday against Washington pitcher Loren Thurmon.

Hannah Cox homered for the 13th time. Her two-run blast over the center field fence opened up a five-run fifth inning.

Grace Glaser tripled and scored, while Kloey Blanton and Payton Counts each singled, scored and drove in a run.

Kayla Ulrich singled three times. Madyson Stahl and Sophia Weirich each had two. Alyssa Sharp drove in two runs, singled and scored.

Hanna Johanning pitched five scoreless innings, struck out five and limited Washington to just three hits.

Sullivan was kept off the board through the first two innings, but Glaser led off the third with a ball that dropped in front of Sophia Olszowka in left. It rolled to the fence and Glaser sprinted into third for a leadoff triple.

Sharp pushed her across with a sacrifice bunt to give Sullivan a 1-0 lead.

Counts, Stahl and Ulrich had three straight singles to load the bases for Johanning. She drew a walk that scored Counts and kept it loaded. Cox tagged a grounder to shortstop Sarah Becszlko, but she couldn’t make a play. Stahl scored on the error to make it 3-0. Blanton grounded into a fielder’s choice, which scored Riley Branson.

Weirich extended the inning with a base hit to short that brought in Cox and gave Sullivan a 5-0 lead.

Cox got the Lady Eagles rolling in the fifth with a towering homer to center that scored Branson.

Sullivan kept the lineup moving as Blanton and Weirich followed with singles. Glaser hit into a fielder’s choice and moved the runners into scoring position.

Sharp delivered an RBI single to left that brought in Blanton. Weirich would score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Counts for a 9-0 lead.

Stahl picked up her second hit of the day to load the bases for Ulrich, who sent a grounder up the middle to bring in Sharp and end the game.
