Purvis, Crump Receive Area’s Top Honors

Sullivan pitcher Addison Purvis and head coach Ashley Crump received the top honors in the Missourian All-Area softball team for the 2018 season.

Purvis was chosen as player of the year for the second straight year and Crump was selected as coach of the year for the third straight year.

The list is voted on by coaches and media members.

Outfielder Hanna Johanning, utility player Hannah Cox, outfielder Madyson Stahl, catcher Madison Decker and infielders Abbey Daniel, Kamryn Lohden and Kloey Blanton all were named to the team.

Purvis and Johanning were unanimous selections and Cox was one vote away from being a unanimous pick.

Purvis was Four Rivers Conference Player of the Year, all-district, all-region and all-state as she led Sullivan to their second Final Four appearance in the last three seasons. She hit .531 with eight home runs, 13 doubles, two triples and 36 RBIs. In the circle, she had a 1.43 EA and struck out 283 batters in 151-1/3 innings.

Washington pitcher Ellie Quathem and Borgia pitcher Liz Lynchard were second and third respectively in the voting.

Purvis received all but one first-place vote. 

Quaethem and Lynchard were in the running despite neither player being unanimous votes at their position and Lynchard not even cracking the first team.

Crump guided the Lady Eagles to 28 wins, the FRC championship, the program’s 11th straight district championship and third place in Class 3. 2018 was the program’s fifth Final Four berth and third under Crump.

Outfielders: Sarah Becszlko, Washington; Adrianna Trenholm, Union; Baylee Ambrose, St. James and Mya Hillerman, Borgia; 

Utility: Emma Vodnansky, Washington

Pitchers: Addison Wright, Owensville; Madelyn Ruszala, St. Clair and Ryan Stutzman, New Haven;

Catcher: Beth Obermark, Borgia;

Infielders: Andi Ingle, St. Clair; Dani Kimminau, Borgia; Desi York-Nunn, St. Clair and Kaylee Bunch, Union;

Outfielders: Ella Wright, Owensville and Caroline Dunn, Union

Utility: Abi Schmidt, Borgia.
