Post 18 Freshmen Fall Short In Non-League Game

SULLIVAN -- Rhineland Post 147 scored five runs in the fifth inning Wednesday and rolled to a 10-6 win over the Post 18 freshmen in a non-league game.

Sullivan trailed 3-2 entering the inning, but committed three errors and allowed Rhineland to run away.

Cy Cape and Garren Parks each had two hits, while Tyler Lewis homered. Kaden Bouse, Alex Branson and Trevor Carey all had hits. 

Bouse started, went three innings, struck out three and walked two. He allowed three runs. Cape pitched an inning, struck out two, walked three and allowed two earned runs. Charlie Lohden pitched two innings, struck out three, walked one and allowed one earned run.

Sullivan took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Lewis led off with a homer. Post 18 would go on to load the bases on singles by Cape and Carey, then a walk to Bryer Summers. but Rhineland got out of the jam.

Post 147 struck back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a wild pitch and two-run single. 

Sullivan cut into the lead in the fifth when Lohden scored on a groundout by Justin Lowe. 

Down 8-2 following Rhineland’s big fifth inning, Sullivan started to rally back in the sixth. With two outs, Bouse hit a pop fly that turned into an error, allowing Tyler Juergens to score. Lohden drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-4. 

Rhineland added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, expanding their lead back to six. Sullivan would pick up two runs in the seventh on groundout by Seth Dautenhahn and Parks stealing home.
