Lady Eagles Win 10th Straight District Championship

Sullivan continued their historical run Friday against Helias.

The Lady Eagles won their 10th straight district title in a 3-2 win over the Crusaders — the program’s 17th championship in the last 19 seasons. Addison Purvis struck the opening blow in the first inning with a solo home run off Helias starter Lauren Howell. That score held until the fifth inning when Purvis led off with a ground rule double. Reagan Thomure was sent in as a courtesy runner and scored on a base hit by Hannah Cox, placed just past the reach of Helias' Abbi Pringer. Morgan Bobbitt's sacrifice fly gave Sullivan a 3-0 lead.

Helias struck back in the sixth when Taylor Woehr reached on an error and Rylee Kolb smacked a homer to left, pulling Helias within 3-2.

In the seventh, Riley Heckenkamp's one-out single kept the Crusaders alive, but Purvis got groundouts to end the game and secure Sullivan's championship. Kloey Blanton threw out Sophia Carr for the final out.

Sullivan faces the winner of District 10 at home on Wednesday.
