Lady Eagles Take Seventh At Marquette Tourney
Following two straight losses to open the Marquette Tournament, Sullivan recovered Friday to defeat Summit 56-39 and come away with seventh place.
Mallory Shetley had 22 points in the victory. Katie Creek and Rylee Denbow scored nine. Kya Harbour scored six, Hanna Johanning had five and Vittoria Polanowski added four. Riley Lock scored one.
The Lady Eagles (2-2) were back in action Monday at Warrenton.
Ft. Zumwalt West
In a reprise of last year’s Marquette Tournament championship, Fort Zumwalt West handed the Lady Eagles a 48-36 defeat during Monday’s opener.
Sullivan struggled offensively and hit just 11 shots from the field. The Lady Eagles did have a 13-4 advantage on the offensive boards, but weren’t able to translate it into points. Zumwalt’s Lillie Pickett and Katie Pauk did the heavy lifting on offense, supplying 21 and 13 points respectively. They combined to go 6-11 beyond the arc while the rest of the Jaguars came up empty.
Lock scored 15 points for the Lady Eagles. She also had a team-high seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Shetley dropped in nine points to go along with three rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Johanning had five points and Creek and Denbow had three. Harbour scored one.
Marquette
Marquette sandwiched 34 of its 46 points in the second and third quarters Wednesday and despite mustering just 12 points in the other two periods, sent Sullivan to a 46-42 loss.
The Lady Mustangs were carried by Autumn Brown, who had 22 points.
Shetley had 14 points to lead Sullivan. She also had eight rebounds and four assists. Lock and Johanning each had eight points. Creek and Polanowski scored four. Denbow and Harbour added two.
Sullivan led 9-6 after the first quarter, but were outscored 34-26 in the following two periods.
