Lady Eagles Rout Newburg

Sullivan found themselves back on the winning side Wednesday against Newburg.

Behind two goals from MaKenzie Martin and Payton Counts and goals from Maddie Brauninger, Payton Dudley, Daisie Duncan and Caitlin Pohlman, the Lady Eagles snapped a nine-game losing streak with an 8-0 rout of Newburg.

Lauren Hoffman and Adrian Bell combined for a shutout, though they had an easy night with Sullivan’s offense commanding the field.

Sullivan scored three goals in the first and five in the second.

Dudley, Pohlman and Libby Jones each had assists.

Counts put Sullivan on the board in the eighth minute with a goal. Piper Fitzgerald got a good look, but it bounced off the crossbar. Later, Hannah Wiegers set up Martin, but Newburg deflected it.

A corner kick at the 28th minute failed to produce a shot on goal, but seconds later Martin put one back in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Pohlman scored five minutes later.

The Lady Eagles had another near miss in the 34th minute with a shot go off the right post.

Sullivan carved up Newburg in the second half, with Brauninger producing the first goal. Counts, Martin, Duncan and Dudley follwed.

Warrenton

Sullivan returned to the field Friday and gave Warrenton a challenge until falling behind in the second half.

Counts put Sullivan up 1-0 early, but Warrenton responded with three straight goals. Martin scored early in the second half. The Warriors went on to score four more goals in a 7-2 win.

Sullivan hosted Belle on Tuesday and travel to Washington on Friday.
