Lady Eagles Rip Capital City

Sullivan eased their way back into the schedule Thursday with a 59-17 win against Capital City at SHS.

Thursday’s victory gave the Lady Eagles their ninth in a row. After nearly a two-week absence from the court, they appeared rested and ready for the final two months.

Rylee Denbow hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as the Lady Eagles ran roughshod over the inexperienced Cavaliers.

The newly-established Capital City is the second high school the Jefferson City Public Schools District has opened.

Freshmen and sophomores are the only students admitted during the first year and it showed on the court.

The Cavaliers list just three sophomores on their varsity and junior varsity rosters.

They were overmatched from the opening tip. Sullivan forced the Cavaliers to turn the ball over on their first five possessions and their swarming defense was too much for Capital City to handle.

It took three minutes for Sullivan to build up an 11-0 lead. A 3-pointer by Denbow, a put-back by Kya Harbour and two free throws from Mallory Shetley put the Lady Eagles ahead.

A jumper at the 4:02 mark gave the Cavaliers their first basket, but Sullivan would go on a 10-2 run to finish out the quarter.

Denbow connected on her second 3-pointer with 1:53 left and would go on to add two more free throws.

Shetley had a turnaround in the lane with 16 seconds remaining. Capital City laid in a shot before the buzzer and Sullivan led 21-4.

Hanna Johanning gave the Lady Eagles a 26-6 lead early in the second quarter with the first of two 3-pointers. Denbow would splash her third a minute later. After a turnover by the Cavaliers, Johanning came down and hit her second to give Sullivan a 32-8 lead. The Lady Eagles went into halftime up 34-11.

The Lady Eagles came out on a 13-0 run, boosted by two more 3s from Denbow and a three-point play by Shetley with 3:31 left.

Porscha Polanowski hit her first 3-pointer to give Sullivan a 50-14 advantage.

The fourth quarter was played with a running clock
