Lady Eagles Receive No. 3 Seed, Play Owensville

To win a third straight district championship, Sullivan will have to win three games in the Class 4 District 10 Tournament, which begins Saturday at Union High School.

The Lady Eagles (16-7) are the third seed in this year’s tournament and face Owensville in the first round.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Sullivan faced Owensville (14-10) in their regular season finale on Tuesday night.

If the Lady Eagles win, they would get St. Clair on Monday, February 25 at 7 p.m.

Rolla (20-3) was named the No. 1 seed and St. Clair (18-6) received the No. 2 seed. Sullivan knocked off the Lady Bulldogs 51-42 in the season opener on Nov. 20. Rolla has only lost to Jefferson City and Kickapoo since then.

Sullivan’s third seed may have been a result of a 49-38 loss to St. Clair on February 1. Both teams are 4-1 since that night, but St. Clair lost to Pacific on February 11, a team Sullivan beat by 11.

Salem (16-9) and Union (14-10) are the fourth and fifth seeds. The winner plays Rolla on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Entering Tuesday night’s finale, the Dutchgirls were on a three-game winning streak, having taken down St. James, New Haven and Pacific. Owensville pummeled New Haven 56-26 and notched a 60-44 against Pacific.

The Dutchgirls are led by 6-2 senior forward Breanna Diestelkamp, who is averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game, along with nearly three blocks.

Anna Finley and Liana Miller are averaging just under 11 points per game.

Sullivan will counter Diestelkamp with Mallory Shetley, who is averaging 17 points and six rebounds per game. Like Diestelkamp, she averages nearly three blocks per game.

Shetley, Riley Lock, Kya Harbour and Katie Creek all average more than one steal per game for the Lady Eagles, who have the league’s stingiest defense.

Sullivan has allowed just 35 points per game during Four Rivers Conference play and 39 points per game all season long.

The offense has steadily progressed through the season and Harbour is second on the team in scoring with eight points per game. Lock and Creek are averaging a touch under six points.
