Lady Eagles Receive No. 1 Seed In District Tournament

Sullivan will host the Class 3 District 3 softball tournament beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14 and they enter the bracket as the top seed.

Seeding for the tournament was released on Friday.

Unsurprisingly, the Lady Eagles are No. 1. They take aim at their 13th straight championship when they host the winner of Salem and Cuba on Thursday, Oct. 15.

St. Francis Borgia is the second seed and faces off against seventh-seeded St. James.

Owensville nabbed the third seed and meets sixth-seeded St. Clair.

Salem and Cuba are the fourth and fifth seeds, respectively.

Sullivan remains as a powerhouse even after graduating a senior core last season.

The offense has been as formidable as ever, boasting seven hitters who hit above or near .400.

Senior Hanna Johanning leads the way with a .483 average, three home runs, three triples, seven doubles and a team-high 25 RBIs.

Sophomore Kayla Ulrich has boosted her average nearly 100 points since last fall. She is hitting .475 and leads the team with a .983 slugging percentage and five home runs.

Ulrich also has nine doubles and three triples. Her 21 RBIs are second on the team.

Riley Branson, Sophia Weirich and Madyson Stahl all are hitting above .400. Stahl has used her speed to leg out five triples.

Alexis Johnson and Jaedin Blankenship are batting above .390.

In the circle, Sullivan has been using the duo of Johanning and Blankenship.

Blankenship has pitched 56.2 innings with a 2.47 ERA. She has 64 strikeouts.

Johanning has thrown 52 innings. She has a 3.23 ERA with 75 strikeouts.
