Lady Eagles Rally To Defeat Windsor

Down a run and four outs from a season-opening loss, Sullivan was able to rally with some two-out heroics.

Kayla Ulrich laced the game-tying single and one batter later, scored the go-ahead run on an error.

Sophia Weirich’s triple added some insurance and Sullivan held on for a 6-4 victory against Windsor in the first pool game of the Peoples Bank Back To School Classic.

The Lady Eagles (1-0) trailed twice in a back-and-forth with the Owls.

Windsor gained a 1-0 advantage in the first, then watched Sullivan tie in the bottom half of the inning.

Sullivan went on top in the second and Windsor returned the favor with a run in the third.

The Lady Eagles gained the upperhand with a tally in the bottom half, but Windsor’s two-run fourth put them back in control.

Windsor chased starter Hanna Johanning with two outs in the fourth. Johanning allowed three hits and four runs. She struck out nine and walked six.

Jaedin Blankenship would relieve her and quickly end the inning. She went back to the circle in the fifth with Sullivan ahead 6-4 and clinched the victory.

Johanning struck out the side in the first, but sandwiched between were two walks and a two-out RBI single by Siegel.

When she came to bat in the first, she drew a four-pitch walk, stole second and scored on Weirich’s single to left. Weirich was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

Sullivan grabbed the lead in the second. Blankenship led off with a single and she took second on a bunt by Alexis Funkhouser. Alexis Johnson drove an opposite field hit to right, putting runners at the corners. Hayli Venable’s fielder’s choice groundout scored Blankenship for a 2-1 Sullivan lead.

Windsor tied the game on a wild pitch in the third.

The advantage went back to Sulllivan in the home half of the inning. Weirich crushed a pitch to left that struck the base of the fence. She stopped at second.

Blankenship moved her to third with a groundout. Hannah Campbell came in as a courtesy runner and scored on Funkhouser’s base hit to right.

The Owls came right back with two runs in the top of the fourth. Veselke had a one-out single, Sulin walked and Alaniz bunted the runners into scoring position.

Irwin smacked a two-run single up the middle, giving Windsor a 4-3 lead.

After a walk to Fendler, Sullivan switched in Blankenship. She finished the inning with a groundout.

Venable reached on an error to start the fourth. A wild pitch advanced her to second.

Riley Branson would draw a walk. With Stahl batting, Venable took third on another wild pitch.

Windsor caught Venable with a pickoff after Branson took off for second.

Stahl flew out to left, but Branson tagged up. She scored on Ulrich’s game-tying single.

Johanning blasted a double to center. Ulrich dashed for home, decided to head back to third and the throw down to the bag sailed into left field. She trotted home for a 5-4 lead.

Johanning scored one batter later on Weirich’s triple.
