Lady Eagles Grind Out Win Against Windsor

One night after they bashed two homers against Union, Sullivan showed their ability to manufacture runs was just as good as their ability to put them over the fence.

And they still powered up.

Sullivan scored their first three runs of the game against Windsor with speed and they scored their last run on Hannah Cox’s first home run of the year.

It added up to a 7-1 win on Wednesday that extended Sullivan’s winning streak to three games.

Windsor entered Wednesday on a five-game winning streak having scored 49 runs during that span, but Addison Purvis neutralized their bats with 14 strikeouts, tying her season high. Purvis walked four and allowed two hits.

Sullivan (9-2) plated a run in the first on Purvis’ one-out single. Reagan Thomure was sent in as a courtesy runner and stole second. She advanced to third on a passed ball and scored when Windsor’s catcher tried to pick her off.

Abbey Daniel doubled to leadoff the second. Morgan Bobbitt seemed to catch Windsor off guard as she pushed a bunt down the first base line and reached safely, advancing Daniel to third. Bobbitt stole second and the throw to the bag was wild. Daniel scored for a 2-0 Sullivan lead.

Grace Glaser drove in Bobbitt with an RBI single to left. Glaser moved up to second base on a groundout by Emma Weirich.

With one out, Kloey Blanton hit a ground ball to short. Windsor shortstop Payton Irwin spotted Glaser wandering too far off the bag and chased her back to second, but Glaser dove in ahead of the tag and was safe, putting two runners on for Purvis. Windsor starter Camryn Clark won a rare battle against Purvis by getting her to pop up to third. Sullivan loaded the bases with a single by Cox, but Windsor got out of the inning.

The Lady Owls cut into the lead in the fourth when Jaden Treis drew a leadoff walk. She moved to second on a passed ball. With two outs and Piper Montgomery batting, Treis scored on a wild pickoff attempt at second. Purvis walked Montgomery. She would eventually reached third before Ally Brickner struck out.

Sullivan got the run back in the bottom of the inning on back-to-back doubles by Purvis and Cox with two outs, both opposite field hits.

In the sixth, Weirich scored on a passed ball. Purvis had an RBI groundout to score Blanton for a 6-1 lead, then Cox launched a solo homer to cap off the damage.
