Lady Eagles Finish Second In Tourney
Sullivan took second place in the Lutheran St. Charles Tournament last week with a victory against Lutheran North, a defeat to Lutheran St. Charles and a draw versus Hazelwood Central.
Through the first six games of 2019, the Lady Eagles (3-2-1) are closing in on last season’s win total.
Lutheran North
Sullivan came out Monday and posted a 4-0 victory against Lutheran North.
Three second-half goals propelled the Lady Eagles. Head coach Bill Kackley said the team came out more energetic in the final 40 minutes.
Alyssa Adams, Maddy Brauninger, Raeleigh Miler and Sierra Pitman scored goals. Grace Glaser, Caitlin Pohlman, Kylee Thomure and Hannah Wiegers assisted. Since the team is putting a heavy emphasis on passing and ball control, Kackley said he was pleased with the assists and they will be focusing more on it this season.
Adrian Bell had two saves, getting her third shutout to that point.
Lutheran St. Charles
Sullivan came up against Lutheran St. Charles in the next game. After holding the Cougars to a goal in the first half, they surrendered two in the second and fell 3-0.
Bradie Edelen scored twice for Lutheran. Allison Murray had the other and also registered an assist.
Bell faced 11 shots and stopped eight. The Lady Eagles put six shots on goal, but were turned away by Cougars goalkeeper Erin Turner.
Hazelwood Central
Sullivan faced Hazelwood Central for second place on Thursday and played the Hawks to a draw. Since Sullivan scored one more goal than Hazelwood Central, they secured runner-up.
Kackley said it was a hard-fought game. Both teams had just three shots.
