Huskey, Willman Advance To State

Senior Isiah Huskey is moving on to state for the second time and freshman Emily Willman will make her first trip after they qualified Saturday at the Class 3 District 5 meet.

Held at Big Driver in Washington, Huskey finished third in a field of 74. His time was 18:15.30.

Willman is Sullivan’s first female qualifier since Maggie Jones advanced as a freshman in 2017.

Willman took eighth and finished in 22:15.90 on Saturday.

Senior Madison Douthit just barely missed a trip to state after she finished 17th. Douthit ran the race in 23:27.90.

Teammate Loren Halmick also was right there in the running after she came in 20th with a time of 23:41.10.

Adia Halmick finished in 26:25.30, while Tracy Cotter had a time of 27:33.30. 

Kayleigh Willman’s time was 28:10.50 and Maddie Joslin 29:16.10.

On the boys side, Jonathan Krygiel came in 22nd in 19:50.40. Chase Walker had a time of 22:04.20. Walker Hardy finished in 23:00.90. Dakota Phegley’s time was 26:00.80 and Zachery McKellips came in at 29:59.10.

Pacific won the boys title with 76 points, holding off Owensville, which took second with 83.

St. Clair came in third with 105 points, followed by Willow Springs with 108 and Union with 112.

Mountain Grove finished sixth with 116 points. Marshfield was seventh with 152 and Sullivan had 197 points for eighth. Salem came in ninth with 226 points. Buffalo had 229 points for 10th and St. James had 258 points to take 11th.

Borgia’s Ben Juengling won the race in 17:23.80, followed by Willow Springs’ Cole Chafin. Chafin had a time of 18:05.60.

Following Huskey was Owensville’s Austin Terry, who had a time of 18:26.50. St. Clair’s Case Busse was fifth in 18:27.20.

Owensville dominated on the girls side and finished first overall. They had 49 points. Borgia came in second with 82. 

Pacific had 83 points, Union 102 and St. Clair 131 to round out the top five.

Marshfield came in sixth with 132 points. Sullivan was seventh with 136. Buffalo took seventh with 197 and Mountain Grove ninth with 202.

Owensville’s Mekayla Gibson finished first in 21:07.10. She was followed by Willow Springs’ Bethany Waggoner. 

Kendra Hults and Sophie Ashner, both of Owensville, were third and fourth respectively.

Mountain Grove’s Macey Penner took fifth.

The state meet will be held Saturday at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. The Class 3 girls will run at 11:30 a.m. and the boys at 12:35 p.m.
