Hermann Edges Sullivan

Sullivan threatened against Hermann in the late innings Thursday, but Chet Moeckli pitched around two jams.

The Bearcats’ hurler got a strikeout with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, then faced down the top of Sullivan’s order with the winning run aboard in the seventh.

Moeckli pitched around five walks to give Hermann a 2-1 win and snap Sullivan’s four-game winning streak. The Eagles had three hits, picking up their first with Derek Evans’ bunt single to leadoff the sixth.

Moeckli outdueled Wyatt Schmidt, who went seven innings and allowed Hermann’s runs in the fifth.

The Bearcats threatened in the first when Chase McKague singled and moved to second on a fielder’s choice. McKague was thrown out by Ty Wheeler trying to steal third.

In the third, Sam Holland and Carter Hemeyer each had one-out singles, but Schmidt got out of the inning with a double play from Chase Racherbaumer.

The fourth inning ended with Jacob Miller throwing out Trent Anderson trying to score from second on a single, keeping the game scoreless.

Hermann broke the tie in the fifth when Cameron Michel led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. With Hemeyer batting, Michel stole third, setting up a RBI groundout. Racherbaumer walked and McKague drove in Hemeyer with a single to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.

Sullivan rallied back in the sixth, but fell short of taking the lead. Evans led off with a bunt single, Miller grounded out to move him up to second and McKinney reached on an error. Moeckli walked Austin Frye to load the bases. With two outs, he walked Kraus to bring home Evans, but got a strikeout to end the frame.

Landon Hoffman walked with one out in the seventh and Evans singled up the middle. Moeckli ended the game with a strikeout and groundout.
