Grand Slam Lifts Logan-Rogersville Over Sullivan

Through three innings Saturday, Sullivan and Logan-Rogersville traded one swing after another.

After Logan-Rogersville erupted for four runs in the first inning of the Peoples Bank Back To School Classic semifinal, Sullivan answered back with a fury.

A three-run bomb from Hanna Johanning in the bottom of the first and a game-tying triple from Kayla Ulrich helped the Lady Eagles even the score.

But the biggest blow was from Halle Miles, who provided a grand slam in the fourth inning to snap the tie.

The Wildcats would hang on for an 8-4 victory and reach the title game for the second straight year.

Sullivan (2-1) regrouped for the third place contest.

Rogersville chased starter Hanna Johanning just four batters in.

A leadoff single, an error at third and a double by Miles gave Rogersville a 2-0 lead. After Ali Icenhower made it 3-0 on a single to center, Sullivan went to Blankenship. She finished the inning, allowing a fielder’s choice RBI.

Johanning exacted some revenge in the bottom half of the inning.

Madyson Stahl and Ulrich singled and doubled, respectively. On a 1-2 pitch, Johanning homered over the fence in center to bring the Lady Eagles within one.

Ulrich tied the game with two outs in the second when she tripled to right, scoring Riley Branson.

Blankenship held Rogersville scoreless in the second and third innings. She allowed a leadoff single to Gracie Kibby in the fourth. Walks to Jessi Jenkins and Meghan Hager loaded the bases for Miles.

Miles deposited a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left to restore a four-run lead.

Miles sat the Lady Eagles down in order in the bottom of the fourth to send her team to the championship game.
