Eagles Win Four Rivers Classic Silver Pool

With a pair of victories against St. Clair and Pacific on Saturday, Sullivan won the silver pool of the Four Rivers Classic.

The Eagles (4-1) locked down the wins with a burst of offense against St. Clair and dynamite pitching against Pacific.

Sullivan broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fifth inning and added five more in the seventh to defeat the Bulldogs 11-4.

Austin Frye took the ball for his first start of the season in the second game and dominated Pacific’s bats. JD McReynolds picked up the save by striking out the side for a 2-0 win.

St. Clair

Sulivan generated 11 hits, Cody McKinney hit a three-run homer and Josh Wiese threw a complete game on 76 pitches to give the Eagles a win.

McKinney, McReynolds Jacob Miller, Jacob Hatcher and Garrett Juergens all had two hits. Juergens and Miller each drove in two runs. Frye and Logan McCummiskey each singled.

Wiese allowed six hits, four earned runs, walked two and struck out one.

Sullivan scored in the first when Miller led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out hit by Hatcher.

St. Clair took the lead in the third. Timmy Hoffman scored on a groundout to Wiese and Landon Roberts came in when Michael Hughes struck a two-out double to left. 

Juergens and McReynolds started the fourth with hits. Juergens scored on an error in right to tie the game at 2-2.

In the fifth, Juergens hit a go-ahead two-run double to score McKinney and Hatcher, giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead. 

Blayten Nolie drove in McReynolds after an error at short, then Miller scored Hoffman with an infield single.

St. Clair cut into the lead when Hughes ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth. Sullivan tacked on five insurance runs in the seventh. Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Frye hit a sacrifice fly and McKinney capped off the rally with a three-run homer, his first of the season.

Pacific

Frye got his first start and struck out nine over six innings. McReynolds, who had problems against Washington his debut, struck out three batters on 13 pitches to close out a 2-0 win.

Frye struck out the side in the first. He retired six straight before giving up three singles in the fourth, but he pitched around it, whiffing TJ Griffith to end the inning. 

Sullivan scored both of its runs in the second. Pacific had runners in scoring position in the sixth, but Carter Myers was caught stealing home and Alec Lonsberry struck out.

The Eagles had seven hits, including two by Miller and McCummiskey. Juergens doubled, while Hoffman and Nolie singled. 

Lonsberry loaded the bases in the second when he walked McReynolds and Hoffman, then gave up a single to McCummiskey. Nolie singled on a ground ball to short to drive in McReynolds, then Miller smacked a single to left, scoring Hoffman.
