Eagles Win First At St. Clair Classic, Three Claim First

Sullivan’s wrestling team won its first tournament of the season Monday at the St. Clair Classic.

Three Eagles wrestlers took first in their respective weight classes.

Dillon Witt (106), Ty Shetley (126) and Kobie Blankenship (145) all finished at the top. Ian Kilburn (152), Evan Shetley (182) and Tristan Brown (285) took second.

Isaac Peregoy (160) came in third, Luke Landwehr (195) was fourth and Ethan Hines (132) finished seventh.

Witt pinned all five of his opponents and three of the matches ended in less than 70 seconds. He pinned Warrenton’s Bryce Edison in 1:09, Liberty Wentzville’s Raed Hague in 3:38, Blair Oaks’ Aidan Bollinger in 47 seconds, Liberty’s Patrick Lynch in 35 seconds and Palmyra’s Kaden Crane in 2:57.

Ty Shetley defeated Warrenton’s Jake Evrard by a 6-1 decision, Priory’s Luke Bagwell in 3:42 and won a 3-2 decision over Palmyra’s Boyd Triplett to take first.

Blankenship pinned Warrenton’s Zach Alexander in 1:40 and Priory’s Adam Rolwes in 1:54. He then won a 6-2 decision against Blair Oaks’ Eli Batiste for first.

Kilburn began with an 11-0 major decision against Warrenton’s Brent Wielms, then pinned Parkway Central’s Yousef Ahmad in 1:08. He received a bye in the next round, where he knocked off Blair Oaks’ Levi Haney by a 6-4 decision. Kilburn fell to Liberty’s Trentin Helton by pin in the championship match.

Evan Shetley pinned Warrenton’s Jeff Napier in 3:36, then Parkway South’s Aiden Scharf in 1:47. He needed 50 seconds to defeat Blair Oaks’ Adam Jurgensmeyer and won a 9-2 decision over Priory’s Louis Rolwes. He came up against St. Clair’s Ryan Herman for first and lost a 9-5 decision. Herman, a state champion in 2017, improved his season record to 43-0.

Brown won his first match against St. Clair’s Evan Barnes, pinning him 2:10. But he came up short against Aaron Herman. Brown rebounded with pins over Josh Napier of Warrenton in 26 seconds and Bret Wang of Priory in 1:45.

Peregoy pinned Palmyra’s Nolyn Richard in 40 seconds, but he came up short against Blair Oaks’ Ben Thomas by a 5-4 decision. He pinned Blair Oaks’ Dex Crane in 1:41 and Liberty’s Evan McCulloch in 1:55.

Landwehr defeated Liberty’s Oliver Fensterman in 3:23. He was pinned by Blair Oaks’ Shane Gillmore in 53 seconds, but took a major decision against Parkway Central’s Joab Hackmann. Landwehr fell to Warrenton’s Colton Rice in 2:29.

Hines lost by pin to Liberty’s Brandon Jones and Priory’s Elliot Holdosh.
