Eagles Unload 3-Point Barrage On Salem
Salem had no answers in stopping Sullivan’s first-half 3-point barrage Tuesday.
Returning to their home floor for the first time since Dec. 21, the Eagles used a devastating attack beyond the arc to beat Salem 64-46.
The Eagles hit 13 3-pointers, a season-high. Sullivan had 10 in the first half as they built up a 22-point halftime lead.
Cody McKinney led the Eagles with 21 points. McKinney and Todd teamed up for 19 first quarter points that staked Sullivan to a double-digit lead. Todd finished with 16 points.
McKinney sank his first four shots, including two 3’s. Todd also launched a pair of treys, helping Sullivan out to a 15-2 lead in the first four minutes.
Landon Hoffman added 12 points, all on 3-point attempts. Jacob Hatcher scored nine. Jacob Rohrer chipped in four and Owen Farrell scored two.
Sullivan jumped out to a 9-0 lead, forcing Salem into a timeout to recover. Jordan Shults put the Tigers on the board with 5:27 left in the first quarter. Sullivan answered with a three-point play from McKinney and a pull-up 3 from the wing by Todd. The Eagles led 21-10 at the end of the period.
The 3’s continued to fall in the second quarter. Sullivan opened up a 37-18 lead when Hoffman found McKinney open for a 3 and then knocked one down on the next possession.
Hoffman and McKinney each had another triple in the final two minutes to give the Eagles 43-21 lead at halftime.
The Eagles continued to roll early in the third period. Hatcher zipped a pass to McKinney, who was cutting inside for an easy basket. He took a wide-open 3 on the next trip down, putting the Eagles up 48-25.
Salem came alive with a 12-2 run, cutting Sullivan’s lead to 11 with 12 seconds left in the third quarter. McKinney scored near the buzzer, leaving the Eagles up 52-39.
Todd jolted Sullivan to start the final period with his fourth 3-pointer. Hoffman’s fourth 3 and a basket inside by Rohrer restored Sullivan’s lead to hefty double digits, 60-41.
