Eagles Travel To Affton For First Round Of Districts

Sullivan returns to the gridiron on Friday when they face the Affton Cougars in the first round of the Class 4 District 2 tournament.

The Eagles (1-5) are the sixth seed face a winless Affton team that has played just three games this season due to COVID-19 restrictions in St. Louis County.

The Cougars are seeded third.

Head coach Eddie Haar said the team was instructed to do workouts as a way of staying prepared during quarantine.

They opened with a 17-14 loss to Clayton, which is seeded seventh in the district.

A week later they were rolled 56-7 by Northwest and ended the regular season with a 28-0 loss to Kelly.

Affton is led by running back Terran Mitchell, who has 81 yards on 13 carries.

Jalen Johnson has caught three passes for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Will Apple is just 11 of 23 for 108 yards.

Sullivan is led by a combination of running backs, including seniors Ian King (244 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Trey Blankenship (191 yards). Junior Alex Goly has rushed for 262 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Gabe Dace has passed for 630 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 193 yards and a score.

The Eagles can spread it around the field.
