Eagles Rally Over Salem With Three-Run Sixth

Sullivan came back from a three-run deficit in the sixth inning on Tuesday, hanging on to defeat Salem 7-6 at Bank of Sullivan Ballpark.

Cody McKinney scored the tying run on a wild pitch and Will Allen drove in JD McReynolds with an RBI groundout to deliver the winning run.

Salem put the go-ahead run on first in the seventh, but Jacob Miller preserved the victory. 

The Eagles (11-4) were playing at home for the first time in three weeks and they remain unbeaten on their own turf.

Austin Frye got the start for the Eagles and went five innings. He struck out two and walked four. 

Miller earned the save with two scoreless innings.

Miller continued to get Sullivan going early with a leadoff single in the first. He stole second and scored on Cody McKinney’s base hit to left.

Salem took the lead in the third. Dawson Conway was hit by a pitch and Reese Dodson walked. Boone Schrader grounded out to Frye, but pushed the runners to second and third. Noah Leathers singled to right and Will Allen committed an error to score two.

Sullivan went back on top in the bottom half of the inning. Miller drew a leadoff walk, Frye reached on an error by Leathers and McKinney drove in both with a line drive to right.

The Eagles loaded the bases, but Brett Fore got a strikeout to end the threat.

Baylor Petty took over for Fore in the fourth and he got the first two batters, but gave up a single to Frye, a double to McKinney and a walk to JD McReynolds. A strikeout again ended the inning.

Salem took advantage with a four-run fifth. Leathers had an RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3. An error by Braden Carey loaded the bases for Theron Southworth. Southworth roped a two-run single to center to put the Tigers on top 5-3. An error by Carey on the play scored Silas Wulff. 

Sullivan took the lead for good in the sixth. Miller hit a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on an error by Schrader. McKinney walked and McReynolds blooped a single to center, scoring Frye. 

McKinney came in on a wild pitch and Allen put the Eagles ahead with a groundout, giving Sullivan a 7-6 lead.

Miller pitched around one-out walks to Jordan Shults and Wulff. He got Southworth to fly out and ended the game with a groundout from Connell.
