Eagles Face Owensville In First Round Of Districts

Sullivan is the No. 3 seed in the boys Class 4 District 10 Tournament that begins Saturday at Union High School.

The Eagles (18-6) will face the sixth-seeded Owensville Dutchmen at 5:30 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinal Tuesday, February 26 against second-seeded Union.

Rolla (15-7) is the No. 1 seed and faces the winner of St. Clair (10-14) and Salem (7-17) in the semifinal.

The tournament championship is Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m.

Sullivan, which is looking for its first district championship since 2003, got their first look at the Dutchmen on Tuesday in the regular season finale.

Owensville entered that game having lost five of its last six contests.

If Sullivan wins, they would get a rematch with Union, who handed them a 52-48 loss on February 8. Union wrapped up a perfect run through the Four Rivers Conference last week. The Wildcats blew a 10-point lead in that game against Sullivan.

Union has just five players that have appeared in all 22 games they have played this season, while guard Peyton Burke has played in 21.

The Wildcats are led by senior Trevor Kelly, who is averaging 17 points per game. Wil Strubberg is a 6-8 center averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game, while Kale Crawford and Jacob Towell provide nine points per game.

Strubberg had nine points on 10 shots when Sullivan faced the Wildcats on February 8, but he also hauled in 17 rebounds and recorded three blocks.

Sullivan relies on senior Cody McKinney. McKinney averages 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and nearly two steals per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 52 percent beyond the arc.

Senior Landon Hoffman averages more than 13 points per game and is shooting 42 on 3-point attempts.

The Eagles get scoring contributions from Austin Frye, Austin Lewis, Cameron Cunningham and Carter Adams. Jacob Rohrer is second on the team in rebounding.
