Eagles Capitalize On Dutchmen Mistakes, Romp To Fourth Straight Win

Give Sullivan an opportunity and they will seize it.

Give Sullivan multiple opportunities and they will break your spirit.

The Eagles continued a streak Friday at Owensville that looks straight out of their 2012 district championship run.

Sullivan romped to a 52-0 victory over the Dutchmen, who repeatedly gave the Eagles a short field throughout the first half. They led 45-0 after two quarters.

For the second straight week, the Eagles (5-3) began the second half with a running clock.

Their four-game winning streak is the longest since 2013 and since falling behind 6-0 in the second quarter against Hermann on October 4, the Eagles have scored 122 straight points.

During their streak they have outscored opponents 150-18. Friday was their third shutout of the season and their five victories match their entire total over the previous two seasons.

The offense never had to start on their own side of the field Friday. Ethan Krygiel ran for two more touchdowns, giving him eight in the last four games.

Kristian Harms ran for a pair of scores. Quarterback Levi Hurt got a goal line push for a rushing touchdown.

Devyn Harmon returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Alex Goly punched the ball in late in the first half.

Harmon also kicked a 30-yard field goal, the only time the offense didn’t find the end zone in the first half.

Sullivan needed just a few plays to score on their opening series. Krygiel’s 1-yard touchdown run with 10:01 to play netted the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Bode Janish intercepted Owensville quarterback Brendan Decker on the next drive, which led to Harmon’s field goal.

Tristan Brown and Evan Shetley were back on the field Friday and their pass rush was disruptive all night. They sacked Decker on a third down pass attempt, then Decker shanked the subsequent punt.

Hurt converted a third-and-1 from the Owensville 11 with a 10-yard run. One play later he rammed the ball into the end zone for a 17-0 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter.

Seeing the game slipping away, Owensville went for it on fourth-and-3 from their own 28. Sullivan knocked Decker’s pass away.

Just eight seconds into the second quarter, the Eagles took advantage when Harms turned the corner on a 5-yard touchdown run, good for a 24-0 lead.

Owensville botched a punt attempt, which would set up Krygiel’s 4-yard touchdown run at the 5:20 mark.

When the Dutchmen did get off a good punt, Harmon took the ball 65 yards for a touchdown with 3:34 left in the half. That gave Sullivan a 38-0 lead.

The Eagles would recover a fumble and set up at the Owensville 33 late in the half. On a fourth-and-goal at the Owensville 1, Goly dove into the end zone for a touchdown with 28 seconds left.

Harms would end the melee with a 7-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
