Eagles Blank Owensville To Reach District Semifinals

Sullivan shutout Owensville for the second time in three weeks and put themselves one step closer to a district championship with a 27-0 win on Friday in the first round of the Class 3 District 2 Tournament.

The Eagles (6-4) will face either Roosevelt or Confluence Prep next week with the winner advancing to the title game on November 15.

Friday's win was Sullivan's first district win since 2016.

Ethan Krygiel ran for a 66-yard touchdown and returned the opening kickoff of the second half 83 yards for a touchdown. Alex Goly and Kristian Harms added scores on the ground for Sullivan.

The defense held Owensville to less than 30 yards in their Week 8 matchup, but the Dutchmen were better the second time around. Sullivan recovered a fumble at their own 4 to thwart one scoring drive, then turned away another Dutchmen series in the fourth quarter.

Sullivan has racked up four shutouts this season and the defense is on a tear.

In their last six games, Sullivan has allowed just 42 points and it's put them in position to challenge for a district title for the first time since 2012.

No matter what happens next week, the Eagles have guaranteed themselves a winning record, something not accomplished by a Sullivan team since the 2013 squad went 8-3.
