Crackerjack Shack Invitational Day 2: Sullivan Rips Carl Junction, Fall To Camdenton

Sullivan finished up their final regular season tournament on Saturday at the Crackerjack Shack Invitational in Springfield with a split.

Scoring six runs in the fifth inning, Sullivan was able to pull away for a 9-2 victory.

The Lady Eagles went down in the second game on a walk-off loss against Camdenton, 4-3.

Carl Junction

Sullivan was clinging to a 1-0 lead through 4.5 innings, but pieced together a six-run rally in the fifth to bury Carl Junction.

Jaedin Blankenship went the distance, throwing six innings, striking out seven and walking one. She scattered three hits and gave up two earned runs.

Sophia Weirich homered and drove in three runs.

Blankenship helped herself out with a pair of hits, including a double.

Kayla Ulrich swatted a single and a double.

Alexis Funkhouser singled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Madyson Stahl singled, scored and had an RBI.

Sullivan took a 1-0 lead in the third when Riley Branson’s bunt back to the pitcher turned into an error. That brought in Morgan Braun, who was running for Blankenship.

Blankenship keyed the onslaught in the fifth by roping a one-out single and taking second on an error. Braun was sent in as the runner and she scored when Funkhouser rolled a grounder to left for an RBI.

Ulrich kept the rally going with a two-out double to plate Funkhouser. She went to third on a wild pitch, then scored on Stahl’s single to center for a 4-0 lead.

After a walk to Johanning, Weirich blasted a homer to left to put Sullivan ahead 7-0.

Carl Junction chipped into the deficit with a two-run single in the sixth.

Blankenship started the sixth by seeing four straight balls. Braun came in again as her runner, then scored again when Funkhouser tripled to left. Funkhouser scored on the play.

Camdenton

Sullivan held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning against Camdenton, but a two-out, two-run double allowed the Lakers to walk off with a 4-3 win.

The Lady Eagles had taken the lead in the top half of the inning.

Johanning was brought in to relieve Blankenship in the fifth and extinguished a Camdenton rally.

A double and a single with two outs put the go-ahead runs on board, forcing Sullivan to make a switch.

Johanning walked the first batter she saw, but ended the frame with a flyout to center.

Johanning holding the line allowed Sullivan to seize control.

Funkhouser was hit by a pitch with one out. Two passed balls later, she was standing on third.

Alexis Johnson drove her in with an RBI groundout.

Sullivan built up a 2-0 lead in the first when Ulrich smacked a leadoff triple and Stahl walked on four pitches.

She stole second and both runners scored on Weirich’s fly ball that was misplayed in left.

Camdenton tied the game with two outs in the second on back-to-back RBI singles.

A pitcher’s duel ensued from there, with Sullivan eventually getting the upperhand on Johnson’s RBI.

Camdenton pulled ahead with a leadoff walk in the sixth. After a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, the Lakers were down to their final out. A walk put the winning run on base and Camdenton walked off with a two-run double.
