Bulldogs, Hoffman Run Past Sullivan
St. Clair swarmed Sullivan on Friday behind five rushing touchdowns from quarterback Tim Hoffman and the Bulldogs marched to a 54-14 victory at Sullivan High School.
Sullivan (0-4) took a lead on their opening drive when Levi Hurt rolled left and found Blaine Blankenship for a 61-yard touchdown pass on third-and-14.
It was all St. Clair after that as the Bulldogs rattled off 48 straight points. The Bulldogs (Class 3 No. 7) defeated Sullivan for the fourth straight season.
Hoffman powered the victory with touchdown runs of 22, 32, 60, 43 and 12 yards. St. Clair tied the game with 7:21 left in the first quarter on Hoffman’s first touchdown run from 22 yards out.
Sullivan punted on their next drive and the defense forced St. Clair into a third-and-11, but Hoffman found the end zone for a 14-7 lead.
Hurt was intercepted by Dalton Thompson on the next drive. The defense then forced St. Clair into a punt situation on fourth-and-6, but Sullivan jumped offsides. On fourth-and-1, Harry Ramos carried the ball 22 yards.
One play later, Hoffman ran through the defense for a 60-yard score with 40 seconds left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs took a 21-7 lead.
Sullivan turned the ball over on a fumble near midfield, giving St. Clair possession in Eagles territory. The Bulldogs needed two plays to find the end zone courtesy of Hoffman’s 43-yard scamper.
A sack on third down ended Sullivan’s next drive, followed by a short punt to give the Bulldogs possession deep in Eagles territory again. Hoffman reached the end zone for the fifth and final time on a 12-yard run with 7:15 left in the half.
Brendyn Stricker gave St. Clair a 42-7 lead on a 33-yard touchdown run with just under three minutes remaining.
Ramos extended St. Clair’s run to start the third quarter, scoring on a 60-yard dash. St. Clair missed the kick.
Sullivan was able to stop the running clock with 1:25 to go when Hurt hit Blankenship for a 47-yard touchdown pass.
Wes Hinson scored on a 12-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
