Blankenship, Peregoy, Shetley Win Titles At Central

Kobie Blankenship, Isaac Peregoy and Evan Shetley won their respective weight classes Saturday at the 17h annual Central Rebels Invitational, while teammates Dillon Witt, Brendan Labbee and Alec McCormick took second.

Tristan Brown took fourth and Devyn Harmon fifth for the Eagles, who are rolling out of the break. Saturday’s tournament featured 17 teams, including four squads from Festus and junior varsity teams from Kennett, New Madrid County Central and Potosi.

Sullivan finished third behind Cape Girardeau Central and Sikeston.

Central led the field with 248.5 points. Sikeston took second with 231 points and Sullivan was right behind with 225 points.

Sullivan’s trio of champions began with Blankenship (138), who improved to 25-3 this season. After pinning Potosi’s Andrew Coleman in 5 minutes, 31 seconds in the first round, he dominated the rest of the way, winning a 14-1 major decision in the second round and his next two matches in less than two minutes. In the championship match against Park Hills’ Blake Bolin, he secured a pin in 55 seconds.

Peregoy (145) had an 18-5 major decision in the first round against Festus JV’s Tyler Gastreich, then picked up quick pinfall victories in his next two matches. He edged Potosi’s Austin Harris 5-4 in the championship bracket and had a 14-5 major decision over Festus’ Luke Shaver in the title match. Peregoy is 13-4 this season.

Shetley (170) remains undefeated at 22-0 after sweeping his way to another tournament title. He made quick work of Festus JV’s Jacob Stewart in the first round, won by technical fall over Sikeston’s Gabe Eckert and Park Hills’ Jacob Looney and then worked over Cape’s Andy Liu in a mere 82 seconds for the championship.

Witt (106) coasted to the championship match with three pins and a 6-0 decision. In the third round, he pinned Festus’ Dillon French in 5 minutes, 8 seconds, but French got revenge in the title match. He bested Witt by pin.

Labbee (113) won his first three matches by decision, then lost to Tristin Benson in the fourth round. He had an injury default against Park Hills’ Joshua Countryman in the fifth round.

McCormick (160) won his first four matches by pin in less than three minutes, but North County’s Cole Cresswell halted his run in the title match.

Brown (285) took fourth, picking up victories in his first three matches before falling short against New Madrid County’s Jay Maltbia and Sikeston’s David Rowland in the third-place match.

Harmon won his first match, lost to Potosi’s Jaydee Vick and Festus’ Cole Bennett, but rebounded against Cape’s Cameren Walley. He pinned Festus JV’s Jordan Banks in the fifth-place match.
