Bats Heat Up In 11-0 Win At Owensville

Sullivan’s bats countered chilly temperatures Monday at Owensville in an 11-0 win over the Dutchmen.

Behind 12 hits — five for extra bases — the Eagles (8-6) won for the third straight game.

Jacob Miller, Cody McKinney, Austin Frye and Will Allen all had two hits. Mike Kraus, Lucas Cottrell, Landon Hoffman and Derek Evans each had one hit.

The Eagles seized on four Owensville errors to tally up the runs and notch a third straight Four Rivers Conference victory.

Sullivan backed starter Garrett Juergens with ample support. Juergens tossed seven innings, struck out seven and surrendered two hits. He walked three and hit two batters.

He faced a first-inning jam when he allowed a leadoff single to Trevor Abernathy and walked Gates with one out. Juergens got out with a pair of ground balls.

In the fourth and fifth, he stranded runners with inning-ending strikeouts.

Owensville’s defense gifted the Eagles three runs in the first inning.

McKinney had a one-out double and Kraus hit a pop fly that was played into an error at second base, putting two on. A passed ball moved both runners up. McKinney scored on a RBI groundout by Ty Wheeler. Frye lofted a single to left to drive in Kraus and Cottrell doubled to center, giving Sullivan a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles added three more runs in the fourth. Frye led off with a double. Cottrell walked and the Eagles put on a double steal, allowing Frye to score from second. Allen singled to give the Eagles runners at the corners. Evans stroked a double, scoring Cottrell for a 5-0 lead.

Miller then reached on an error at short, which allowed Allen to score.

Sullivan added two more runs in the sixth on a RBI double by Allen that scored Hoffman, later followed by a two-out run-scoring single by McKinney.

In the seventh, Cottrell had a sacrifice fly to score Blayten Nolie and Miller lined a two-run single to give the Eagles an 11-0 lead.
