Marriott International has officially announced plans to debut its first-everJW Marriott All-Inclusive Resort in the stunning Guanacaste region of Costa Rica.

"This project marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital, a pioneer in the all-inclusive sector, within the CALA region."

True to the brand's focus on wellness, the resort will house a 16,000-square-foot spa and a state-of-the-art fitness center. For foodies, the property will offer 11 different food and beverage outlets, ensuring that "all-inclusive" dining feels like a world-class culinary tour.

Getting there is surprisingly easy, too. The resort is situated approximately 49 miles from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, making it an accessible getaway for U.S. travelers. This news comes on the heels of Marriott opening its 50th luxury hotel in the region—the Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve—proving that this corner of Central America is officially the new "it" spot for luxury.

Whether you're planning a multi-generational family trip or a quiet wellness retreat, this new addition offers a rare chance to enjoy a high-end experience without ever having to reach for your wallet once you arrive. In a world of busy itineraries, it’s nice to know that sometimes the best plan is simply to let the resort handle everything for you.

1976 No. 1 Hit Soft Rock Song Got Its Title in a Truly Unexpected Way

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 7:02am

In 1976, the Starland Vocal Band topped the charts with the one-off hit “Afternoon Delight.” The "skyrockets"-fueled soft pop-rock song hit No. 1 on theBillboard Hot 100 on July 10, 1976, just in time for the Bicentennial, and remained in the top spot for two weeks. It charted on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 20.

The Starland Vocal Band quartet featured couples Bill Danoff and "Taffy" Nivert and Jon Carroll and Margot Chapman. Their song "Afternoon Delight" was filled with double entendres hinting at a midday rendezvous, but in reality, it was inspired in an innocent way—from a restaurant menu.

According to GQ, Danoff was dining at a Georgetown, Washington D.C. restaurant, when he spotted a happy hour menu called “Afternoon Delights.” He felt the words on the menu made a good song title, and he wrote the future hit “while imagining how it would sound with four voices.”

In September 1976, Rolling Stone noted that Nivert explained, "Bill wrote this after having lunch at Clyde's in Washington, D.C. It seems Clyde's has a menu called 'Afternoon Delight' with stuff like spiced shrimp and hot Brie with almonds. So Bill ate it — the food, that is— and went home and explained to me what 'Afternoon Delight' should be."

“Afternoon Delight” won the Starland Vocal Band two Grammy Awards, one for Best New Artist and one for Best Arrangement For Voices (Duo, Group Or Chorus).

The all-American couples also scored a CBS summer replacement variety show. “The fact that we were clean-cut and didn’t look like the Grateful Dead, CBS thought that was good. But we didn’t want it,” Danoff told GQ of the short-lived series.

The Starland Vocal Band broke up in 1981, and both couples divorced.

Danoff wanted to write a ‘fun’ song

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, Danoff revealed that he “didn’t want to write an all-out sex song when he penned “Afternoon Delight.”

“I just wanted to write something that was fun and hinted at sex,” he explained to the outlet, per American Songwriter. “It was one of those songs that you could really have a good time writing. If the song had been banned, it would have been a real injustice. The lyrics are subtle and sophisticated and not at all raunchy. It might have been banned years ago, but not today.”

Starland Vocal Band member Jon Carroll once addressed “Afternoon Delight’s" reputation as a cheesy sex song.

“I'm as proud of ‘Afternoon Delight’ as if I'd had to live it down,” he told Songfacts in a 2018 interview. “I'm very proud of it, and all the folks who love that record love it up and down. I'm so happy that it is the one that was a hit because it was always fun to sing it. We never got tired of singing 'Afternoon Delight.'"

"But 'Afternoon Delight' is not the kind of record for someone who wants to be perceived as a bad-a-- rock and roller," he admitted. "It's not cool to like that record, right? I was 18 when we recorded it, and it came out and I couldn't believe that they chose it as a single.’”

Of the song’s longevity, the Starland Vocal Band keyboardist and guitarist added, “They're still playing ‘Afternoon Delight’ but they're not playing ‘Moonlight Feels Right’ [by the band Starbuck]. I don't mean to deride anybody's record because I love ‘Moonlight Feels Right.’"

Before Eric Dane’s Death, Rebecca Gayheart Said She Was Focused on One Thing for Their Daughters

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 7:01am

Before Eric Dane’s death, his wife Rebecca Gayheart made one thing clear about what she wanted their two daughters to carry through his illness: peace.

Speaking on Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen in November 2025, Gayheart, 54, reflected on the values she hoped to model for Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, as their father battled ALS. “We show up for people no matter what. He is our family. He is your father,” she said. “We will get through it the best we can.”

Though she described the situation as “super complicated”—she and the Grey’s Anatomy star had been separated for eight years—Gayheart said her focus wasn’t on perfection. “I don’t know if I’m doing it well or if I’m doing it the wrong way or the right way,” she admitted. “I’m just showing up and trying to be there for them. I guess time will tell.”

More than anything, she said she wanted to protect her daughters from future regret. Gayheart explained that she worked to make sure the girls had opportunities to spend time with their dad, so they would never look back and think they missed out on time with him.

“I just want to make sure I provide them with the opportunity to spend time with him so that they don’t ever look back and go, ‘I wish I would have spent some time with my dad’ or ‘I wish I would have, you know, said this to him or ask him these questions or been there,’” Gayheart confessed.

She also shared a personal gauge that guided her decisions: when her “head hits the pillow,” could she live with how she handled things? That nightly question, she said, helped her navigate what she called an “uncharted” chapter.

Gayheart and Dane married in 2004, and she filed for divorce in 2018 after 13 years of marriage. But after Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, she withdrew the petition, later explaining that the decision was rooted in family.

Dane passed away on Thursday, February 19 just 10 months after revealing his devastating diagnosis with the world. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his rep revealed in a statement to Parade. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

Dane was 53 years old.

Taylor Swift is the Secret Weapon Behind Students’ Good Grades

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 7:00am

There’s a new kind of school supply making the rounds on students’ study playlists. It’s pop music, led by none other than Taylor Swift.

According to a recent survey of more than 1,000 parents, Swift, 36, tops the list as the most popular artist kids listen to while studying, outranking other major names like Morgan Wallen and Drake. Parents also report that students who regularly study with music tend to perform better academically, especially when tunes help reduce stress and make the work feel less intimidating.

So why do students turn to music like Swift’s during homework time? Research suggests that music can play a real role in shaping the study experience. A majority of parents in the same survey said music helped their children focus longer, stay motivated, and feel calmer while tackling assignments. Pop music (the genre Swift represents) was the most commonly cited choice, followed by rock and hip‑hop.

Studies on the effects of background music also point to a mood‑boosting benefit: when students feel less anxious, they’re more likely to settle into their work and stick with it. Music can act as a sort of emotional buffer, making long study sessions feel less stressful and more manageable.

Of course, not all music affects every student the same way. Some learners prefer instrumental or lo‑fi tracks to help with focus, while others might find lyrics distracting. But Swift’s popularity across all grade levels suggests there’s something about her sound that resonates with students, whether it’s the familiarity, the comforting vocals, or simply the fact that research shows enjoying the music you choose can make study time feel just a little easier.

So if you find the kids, grandkids, or even yourself cracking open a textbook, put Swift on in the background to see if she helps you power through!

Cindy Crawford Gets 'Riled Up' When People Say This About Her Daughter

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 7:00am

Cindy Crawford has graced hundreds of magazine covers and walked for top designers like Gianni Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren. But she’s not just an iconic supermodel. She’s also a role model to her two kids.

"The greatest thing about having kids is you just...instantly know your priorities," Crawford said on Today. "You know it's always family first."

She went on to recall a time when, as a small child, her son was asked what his parents did for work. “[He] told [his] preschool teachers that I didn't work,” she shared. “And I was like, wow, that means I'm doing a great job, because he doesn't feel my absence so much.”

Keep reading to learn more about Crawford’s kids, how they’re following in her footsteps and why her firstborn got a shocking face tattoo.

How many biological children does Cindy Crawford have?

The runway legend is mom to son Presley, 26, and daughter Kaia, 24, both of whom have pursued modeling careers of their own.

“Kids don’t always listen, but they are always watching what you do,” she told Town & Country when asked how she taught her kids to care about more than external beauty. “If you’re polite to people, they learn to be polite. If you make family time a priority, they don’t even question spending time together. If I’m constantly berating myself in front of them — I look old, I have more wrinkles every year, I can’t have that dessert because I’ll get fat — then they learn to do the same thing. You lead by example.”

Rande Gerber

Crawford shares her children with former model and entrepreneur Rande Gerber, whom she met in the early 1990s at an agent’s wedding. Their relationship didn’t turn romantic until several years later, after she divorced her first husband, actor Richard Gere. She and Gerber tied the knot in May 1998.

"I wore John Galliano off the rack because the wedding was supposed to be secret,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “We married in the Bahamas in front of our friends and family and it was so special — it was different for my second wedding. We walked each other down the aisle."

They welcomed their first child, son Presley, a year later.

Celebrating Father’s Day in 2024, Crawford wrote on Instagram, “Watching your devotion to our children has been one of the great joys of my life! I don’t know what any of us would do without you. Thanks for taking such great care of your family — we love you.”

Presley Walker Gerber (b. July 2, 1999)

Crawford and Gerber welcomed son Presley on July 2, 1999. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he walked his first runway in 2016, when he was just 16 years old, for the luxury fashion brand Moschino. He went on to work for labels including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

Presley has also been candid about his mental health struggles, which caused a tabloid frenzy in 2020 when he got a face tattoo that reads “misunderstood.”

"If I thought this was going to ruin my face or I didn't want this, I wouldn't have done it. I think that's a pretty obvious thing," he said on Instagram Live. "So, can you just move past that?" He later added, "It says 'misunderstood' because that's how I felt my entire life." He’s since had the tattoo removed.

“Presley is obviously going through a super rebellious phase right now,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “He is trying to get out of the shadow of his family and find his own way and create his own identity.”

These days, Presley runs a weekly “Mental Health Mondays” series on his Instagram, discussing various mental health treatments, issues and more.

Marking her son’s 26th birthday, Crawford wrote on Instagram, “Wow—where does the time go? I am so proud of the man you are becoming but you will always be my little golden boy! Love creating new memories with you and look forward to seeing what’s next!”

Presley regularly gushes over his parents and sister, too. Honoring his mother on her birthday in 2024, he wrote. “Mom. Thank you. Thank you for all of the amazing support and love you have showed me. Thank you for being a role model. You are one of my greatest inspirations. From relationships to work you have taught me so much. I am grateful for you every day. I have infinite love for you.”

Kaia Gerber (b. Sept. 3, 2001)

Gerber, her mother’s mini-me, joined the family in 2001 and went on to become a hugely successful model, walking for Chanel, Saint Laurent, Prada and more.

“For me [modeling] wasn’t a foreign world to go into and I felt like I understood it,” Kaia told Vogue of how being Cindy Crawford’s daughter shaped her modeling experience. “I knew what I was kind of getting into. I’d been around it a lot … So for me it was, it was definitely less scary to go into. I have so much appreciation for women like my mom and for the other girls who come who don’t know anything.”

In addition to modeling, Kaia is an actress whose credits include Bottoms, Palm Royale and Overcompensating

She also makes headlines for her personal life: She’s currently dating fellow nepo baby Lewis Pullman and was previously linked to Pete Davidson, Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler.

Is Kaia Gerber the Gerber baby?

No. Although Kaia Gerber is a model, she is not the famous Gerber baby. That would be Ann Turner Cook, who died in 2022 at the age of 95.

What has happened to Cindy Crawford's son?

In 2019, at the age of 19, Presley was charged with a DUI and released without bail. "Presley Gerber takes this very seriously and is taking the necessary steps to address the allegations," his lawyer said in a statement (via TMZ). The incident seemed to be a turning point for Presley, who got a face tattoo that read “misunderstood” the following year.

“Presley feels like there’s a lot of pressure on him because his parents and Kaia are so successful, and Kaia is thought of as a ‘sweetheart’ and Cindy and Rande have such respected reputations in everything they do,” a source told Us Weekly. “He wants to do his own thing and find his own place in the world.”

He’s since tended to his mental health and is using his platform to help others who might be wrestling with demons of their own.

"Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do," he said on the Studio 22 podcast.

"[Mental health] is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It's a 24/7 job, and there's so much to it," he said. "That's really what I want to do: help people, whether you're depressed, you're struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body. I mean it could be anything, and there's no judgment."

Is Kaia Gerber a nepo baby?

Yes, as Cindy Crawford's daughter, she is a nepo baby. But don't let her mom hear you say that.

“It was easier for Kaia to get a meeting or an appointment, but in the fashion industry, if you don’t have the right look, Vogue is not going to use you,” she told the outlet. “It doesn’t matter. It bothers me more than it bothers Kaia when people say, ’Oh, her mom bought her a career.’ Even if I wanted to, it would not be possible; there is no way that Karl Lagerfeld or Anna Wintour or Vogue...that is not how the industry works. …She is comfortable in front of a camera, she works hard, and for that to be dismissed riles me up. Time will tell the truth.”

Curate a Capsule Wardrobe With These Expert-Approved Pieces — Shop Essentials Starting at $7

Piecing together the perfect outfit from the plethora of clothes and accessories in your closet is hardly ever an easy task. For those with a fast-paced lifestyle, the struggle to put together a cohesive ensemble every morning adds unnecessary stress. A capsule wardrobe can simplify the dreaded morning indecisiveness. It’s a curated collection of versatile and timeless pieces, designed to help you create a variety of outfits with a minimal amount of clothes — the epitome of less is more.

We checked in with fashion experts to help you curate a collection tailored to your lifestyle. They explained the importance of a capsule wardrobe and identified some staple pieces that belong in one.

“A capsule wardrobe works when you can reach into your closet half-awake and pull out literally any top with any bottom. They just go together,” said Elena Mensch, a certified image consultant, style expert, and founder of Velvet Image Lab. “Imagine just zero decision fatigue.”

Des Awosefo, a personal style strategist and content creator with over 122,000 followers on TikTok and 86,000 followers on Instagram, agreed that capsule wardrobes reduce the stress of deciding what to wear rather than having a plethora of options to choose from. “Its true beauty lies in the way it makes you look more put together and intentional, while owning less,” Awosefo said.

Here are a few helpful tips that experts suggest when picking out pieces for your capsule wardrobe:

  • “For color palette, stick to solid neutrals. Black, brown, navy, white, beige, gray, and olive,” Mensch said.
  • She also added, “The test for whether a piece belongs is straightforward: could it sit next to anything else in your closet and not clash?”
  • Awesefo says that there isn’t a specific guideline for the number of clothing items, shoes, and accessories. “The key to a successful capsule is less about the exact number of items you own, but more about the extent to which it's aligned with your actual life and tastes,” she explained.

If you’re ready to start curating a capsule wardrobe, read on for 15 specific pieces that experts believe are essential. We’ve rounded up some styles below from various fan-favorite retailers, and they just start at $7.

Medium or Dark Wash Jeans

According to Mensch, a good rule of thumb is to start with the bottom and work your way up. “They set the tone for everything layered on top,” she explained. “Straight-leg jeans in a medium or dark wash are the foundation.”

A classic and timeless piece, straight-leg jeans in a darker hue are the foundation for any casual outfit. Mensch said, “They go with every color. Not most colors. Every color.” She added that you can opt for any waist height, whether it be high-rise, mid-rise, or low-rise. Anything that feels right for your body.

Time and Tru Mid-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans, From $18 (was $20) at Walmart Lee Relaxed-Fit Straight Leg Jeans, $40 at Amazon Style & Co High-Rise Straight-Leg Jeans, $50 at Macy’s Trousers

Dianne Boyer, a certified personal stylist and owner of Dianne In Style, said that “the key thing is to build a capsule wardrobe that works for where you are today.”

Depending on your lifestyle and occupation, there may be occasions when jeans simply aren’t a fit. If you work in an office where you need dressier attire, Mensch said that “wide-leg trousers give you a dressier lane when jeans won't cut it,” and “tailored pants handle workdays.”

Lee Ultra Lux Comfort Trouser Pants, From $17 (was $43) at Amazon Jwd High-Waist Wide-Leg Trousers, $20 (was $29) at Walmart Max Studio Ponte High-Waist Wide-Leg Pants, $30 (was $118) at Nordstrom Rack Midi A-Line Skirt

For the warmer months, you may want to include a skirt in your daily rotation, and Mensch noted that an A-line shirt is the “safest entry point” as it’s a silhouette that complements everyone.

Temofon Pleated A-Line Midi Skirt, $16 (was $25) at Walmart Modegal Satin A-Line Midi Skirt, From $28 (was $34) at Amazon Organic Cotton Sateen A-Line Midi Skirt $70 at Quince

Now that we’ve completed the bottoms, it’s time to decide which tops belong in your curated collection. Mensch said that most tops should be a light neutral tone. Her first color choice is white, followed by oatmeal and beige. The tops in your closet will vary depending on season, and Mensch stressed the importance of fabric weight and sleeve length.

“Every piece here earns its spot by playing well with everything else, which means nothing too specific in cut or color. Neutral, clean, done,” she said.

White Crewneck Tee

Boyer and Mensch both agree that a capsule wardrobe should include a white crewneck T-shirt. Boyer explained why the pieces she deemed to be necessary capsule wardrobe items are essential. “They can give you an all-around polished look and are always in style,” she said. A classic plain white tee is no exception.

Time and Tru 100% Cotton Crewneck Tee, $7 at Walmart AbaAbardsion Slim-Fit Crewneck T-Shirt, From $8 at Amazon Timeless Crewneck T-Shirt, From $21 (was $30) at Banana Republic Factory Long-Sleeve Tee

Mensch included a long-sleeve tee as an essential. It’s ideal for chilly months and transitioning weather, as it can either be worn alone or layered under bulkier pieces.

Anrabess Slim-Fit Ribbed Long-Sleeve Tee, From $8 (was $20) at Amazon Time and Tru V-Neck Long-Sleeve Tee, $9 at Walmart Supima Cotton Long Sleeve Crewneck T-Shirt, $45 at Lands’ End Silk or Satin Camisole

For the sweltering summer months, a tank or cami is a must-have. When choosing one that you’ll wear on repeat, Mensch suggested one made of silk or satin. “They always make any outfit more expensive and transition from your office (layered under a blazer) straight to dinner without a change,” she explained.

Zeagoo V-Neck Camisole, From $13 (was $16) at Amazon Mawor Satin V-Neck Tank Top, From $13 (was $17) at Amazon Mulberry Silk V-Neck Cami, $50 at Quince Sweater

According to Mensch, you should have two sweaters in your wardrobe that don’t feel interchangeable. These sweaters should be of different textures and necklines — one fitted crewneck and one with more volume. “They should feel like entirely separate garments when you put them on,” she said.

Boyer noted that a sweater made from cashmere is a good option. It’s a high-quality fabric that’s about three times warmer than wool while still being breathable and lightweight.

Arach & Cloth Wool-Blend Crewneck Sweater, From $23 (was $40) at Amazon Difdany Cashmere-Blend Turtleneck Sweater, From $25 (was $28) at Walmart Naadam The Original Cashmere Crewneck Sweater, $98 at Amazon Blazer

“A blazer that fits properly does more heavy lifting than almost any other single piece,” Mensch explained. It’s a piece that can elevate nearly any outfit and make any look feel polished and intentional. Mensch advises avoiding one that’s oversized, too structured, or double-breasted, and rather look for a blazer that’s clean through the shoulders.

Cicy Bell Open-Front Blazer, From $42 (was $59) at Amazon Inspire Chic Faux-Suede Blazer, From $44 at Walmart I.N.C. 3/4-Sleeve Blazer, $80 at Macy’s Casual Jacket

All you need is one casual jacket. When choosing which jacket belongs in your capsule wardrobe, you aren’t limited to a specific style. Depending on your preference, you could go for a leather jacket, barn coat, a leather jacket, bomber jacket, or denim jacket.

“The real question is which one you'd throw on for a Saturday errand run without a second thought-that's your jacket," Mensch said. "If it's going to live on the hanger untouched, skip it and spend that money on something you'd grab weekly.”

Gtliae Barn Jacket, From $40 (was $50) at Amazon Prettygarden Faux-Leather Jacket, From $47 (was $80) at Walmart Z by Zella Ruched-Sleeve Bomber Jacket, $50 (was $100) at Nordstrom Rack Coat

Of course, you’re not limited to just a jacket. When winter rolls around, you’ll need something thicker and heavier to keep you warm. Both Boyer and Mensch noted that a classic wool coat is the way to go. Warm, timeless, and classy, it’s a must-have winter layer.

Bernardo Wool-Blend Wrap Coat, $36 (was $250) at Nordstrom Rack Idealsanxun Wool-Blend Long Pea Coat, $60 (was $66) at Amazon Italian Wool Classic Single-Breasted Coat, $175 at Quince

Moving on to footwear, there isn’t a set number of pairs that you should own. However, you should be selective and curate the shoes in your collection that are tailored to your lifestyle.

Flats

Dressier than sneakers but more comfortable than pumps, flats are a must-have for anyone always on the move and likes to dress to impress. While there are so many different types to choose from, Mensch suggested going with a pointed-toe silhouette. “They sharpen the whole look and make legs appear longer,” she said.

Of course, this all depends on style preference. You can also opt for a pair of round-toe or square-toe flats — whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Tingrise Pointed-Toe Knit Ballet Flats, From $28 (was $33) at Amazon Mia Aviba Mary Jane Pointed-Toe Flats, $40 (was $55) at Nordstrom Rack Reitoye Pointed-Toe Faux-Leather Flats, $40 (was $46) at Amazon Boots

The cold-weather shoe. Mensch said that you should own boots in two shaft heights: knee-high and ankle. Heel height and type don’t matter as much. When deciding, choose “whatever heel situation lets you forget about your feet by hour three,” she said. You can go for flat, block, or kitten heels.

White Mountain Faux-Suede Knee-High Boots, From $26 (was $119) at Walmart Amazon Essential Ankle Boots, From $40 at Amazon Steve Madden Lianne Kitten-Heel Bootie, $52 (was $110) at DSW White Sneakers

You can’t go wrong with a pair of white sneakers. They’re all-around shoes that are classic, versatile, and comfortable. Mensch noted that a clean pair of white sneakers balances out your closet for casual days.

Sernial Faux-Leather Sneakers, $26 at Amazon Reebok Princess Walking Shoes, $50 at Amazon Cole Haan Grand Crosscourt Daily Sneakers, $90 (was $180) at Macy’s

While many consider collecting purses to be a hobby, you really only need two: a tote bag and a shoulder bag. “Two bags handle pretty much every scenario,” Mensch explained.

Tote Bag

For convenience, a tote bag or structured satchel is the ideal choice, especially when you need something roomy.

Hoxis Oversized Faux-Leather Tote Bag, From $25 (was $36) at Amazon Gocvo Canvas Tote Bag, From $17 (was $30) at Walmart Voyager Large Saffiano Leather Tote, From $139 (was $398) at Michael Kors Outlet Shoulder or Crossbody Bag

When you’re traveling lighter, Mensch suggested carrying a smaller crossbody or shoulder bag. She especially recommended a crossbody. “Hands-free is just objectively better when you're navigating the world,” she said.

Amszke Faux-Leather Shoulder Bag, From $16 (was $25) at Amazon Marc Jacobs Groove Mini Crossbody Bag, $125 (was $258) at Nordstrom Rack Klare Envelope Crossbody Bag, $149 (was $325) at Coach Outlet

1998 No. 1 Hit Ranked Best Debut Single of All Time

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 6:04am

In 1998, not many people knew who Britney Spears was. The then-teen had been playing various shows and even opened for NSYNC but she was about to explode onto the music scene with the release of her debut single, "...Baby One More Time," in October of that year.

The song ended up being extremely popular, earning Spears a number of different accolades, including a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Spears’ debut single transformed pop music, opening the door for other female artists and ushering in a new era of pop.

In May 2020, Rolling Stone named "...Baby One More Time" the best debut single of all time, which is impressive, to say the least.

In an interview with the magazine way back in 2000, Spears opened up about the song, saying that she wanted her voice to sound "kind of rusty."

"So much attitude in that song,” Spears continued. "I was so happy because there’s a lot of good songs out there, but it’s rare when you can take a song and really put your name all over it and put your personality into it."

The track, which was featured on Spears' debut album by the same name, received high praise worldwide, topping the charts in more than 20 countries and even hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The music video for the song is one of the most iconic in pop music. It features Spears dressed in a school girl outfit and was a source of inspiration for girls around the globe for years. In November 2024, Billboard reported that the music video joined the billion views club.

1971 Rock Classic Ranked No. 1 ‘Greatest Live Album of All Time’

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 6:04am

The studio may be where songs are polished, but the stage is where legends are forged because not every band is created equal when it comes to performing live.

A new ranking from BBC Music Magazine of the greatest live albums ever recorded has named a 1971 classic as the No. 1 live album of all time, beating out iconic releases from Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, The Who and more.

RELATED: Rock Legend Arrested For Public Urination at Alamo 44 Years Ago Today

The album taking the top spot is The Allman Brothers Band’sAt Fillmore East.

Originally released July 6, 1971, At Fillmore East was recorded over two nights—March 12 and 13, 1971—at New York City’s famed Fillmore East, the legendary venue operated by promoter Bill Graham. Produced by Tom Dowd and issued as a double LP on Capricorn Records, the album featured just seven songs spread across four vinyl sides, with sprawling, extended performances of “Whipping Post,” “You Don’t Love Me” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

The recording captured the band at a pivotal moment. While their earlier studio albums had struggled commercially, their reputation as a live act had been growing rapidly thanks to relentless touring and marathon performances that often stretched songs far beyond radio-friendly runtimes. As Gregg Allman later reflected, the band realized “the audience was a big part of what we did,” something that could not be replicated inside a studio.

At Fillmore East became the band’s artistic and commercial breakthrough. It peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard charts and became the group’s first Platinum-certified album. Over the decades, its reputation has only grown. In 2004, the Library of Congress selected the album for preservation in the National Recording Registry, deeming it “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Rolling Stone has repeatedly ranked it among the greatest albums of all time, calling it “rock’s greatest live double LP.”

And now, it has once again claimed the top spot.

In a newly published ranking of the 21 greatest live albums ever made, the 1971 release was crowned No. 1, praised for its “telepathic interplay” and razor-sharp virtuosity, particularly the dual-guitar chemistry between Duane Allman and Dickey Betts.

It’s not the first time the album has earned that distinction. In 2020, The Independent also named At Fillmore East the greatest live album of all time, cementing its status as the gold standard for concert recordings.

This is the Best Place to Go in Mexico in Feburary—And It's Not Cancun

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 6:01am

Many people who go to Mexico in winter often hit the coast, places like Cancun, Tulum, Riviera Maya. However, the real magic lies far inland. Even though I've been to over 70 countries and have spent weeks exploring much of Mexico, nothing compares to the enchantment of the Monarch migration that happens every year from January—March in the Oyamel Fir forests of Michoacán, a protected area of over 550 square kilometers. Here, thousands of monarch butterflies congregate in concentrated colonies, erupting all along the trees like confetti. This rare natural phenomenon feels like a staged event until you’re standing there: with trunks and branches covered in orange, then a sudden lift as sunlight hits the canopy and the whole hillside seems to move with thousands of fluttering butterlifes. UNESCO calls the reserve essential to protecting this “superlative natural phenomenon,” and you understand why the second you arrive. The trip is so popular, that even Rhode Scholars offers a $3,000 tour that takes you deep into the swarm during peak viewing.

How to Get There

G

It's not a straightforward adventure, as you have to travel quite a ways to get there. First, fly into Mexico City, which Monarch Joint Venture notes is the closest airport to the sanctuaries. From there, you have two easy ways in: You can do a long day trip to Estado de México sites like Piedra Herrada (often paired with Valle de Bravo), which keeps you closer to the capital while still getting the forest-and-monarch payoff. Or you can build a slightly more layered itinerary by heading toward Michoacán, where El Rosario and Sierra Chincua are two of the best-known sanctuaries (and where Angangueo is a common jumping-off town).

One important reporting note to include is that the U.S. State Department advisory for Mexico includes guidance that U.S. government employees may not travel to other areas of Michoacán, including portions of the Monarch Butterfly Reserve located in Michoacán. Readers should check current advisories and make their own risk-informed decisions.

Where to stay

Hotel de la Sole

Since much of your day is spent deep in the woods with butterflies, most people prefer a luxe play to lay their head. Morelia, the capital of Michoacán, is a great base, as it boasts Spanish colonial architecture, with many of the buildings in the historic center built from a light pink stone (called cantera rose) in a very baroque style. Two reliable, centrally located stays here are Hotel de la Soledad and Cantera Diez, both of which are walking distance to restaurants and bars, and feature beautifully landscaped patios where you can soak up the starry night sky.

For something quieter and more atmospheric, stay in Pátzcuaro, which is about 45 minutes from Morelia, and has a slower, more relaxed lakeside rhythm that balances the rigorous hikes and mountain adventures of the Monarch migration wonderfully. Hotel Casa Encantada is a strong boutique option right in the historic center. If you’re prioritizing an early start at the sanctuaries, staying closer in towns like Angangueo can make the morning easier, though the lodging tends to be simpler (just simple accommodations with no frills in sight).

How to best experience the magic

G

This is one of those trips where timing matters as much as the destination. Aim to arrive when the forest has started to warm, with experts advising the late morning into early afternoon. This is often when you’ll see more flight and movement, not just clustered wings. And don’t underestimate the setting, these are highland forests, and the whole reason the butterflies survive here is the microclimate the oyamel forest creates, which is cool and moist. So when you're packing, pack plenty of layers, because when the butterflies start to swarm, the area warms up a little.

G

Although you can explore the forest on your own, it's recommended to hire local guides and follow sanctuary rules closely. Since this is protected habitat, and the best experiences tend to be the quiet ones, you need to stay on trails, give the butterflies space, and treat it like wildlife viewing, not just a place for endless selfies and photo opps.

The monarchs start to roost high up in the forests around late November, but the peak viewing when the butterflies are most active tend to be around late January to the end of February. As the spring temperatures start to warm up the forests, the butterflies erupt in activity, making it key to get there during that time to experience them in all their glory. Most sanctuaries are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., but it's advised to ask and research well in advance to visiting.

Patrick Dempsey Pays Tribute to 'Grey's Anatomy' Co-Star Eric Dane

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 6:00am

Patrick Dempsey just shared a touching tribute to his friend and former Grey's Anatomy co-star Eric Dane.

Dane died on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the age of 53 following a battle with ALS, according a statement from his representative shared with Parade.

Dempsey, 60, and Dane starred on the medical drama together from 2006 to 2012. On the show, the pair played best friends Dr. Derek Shepherd and Dr. Mark Sloan—who were dubbed “McDreamy” and “McSteamy,” respectively.

Dempsey addressed his friend's passing for the first time during an appearance on Virgin Radio U.K.’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Friday, Feb. 20, saying, “I just woke up this morning and it was very sad to read the news. It’s hard to put into words. I feel really so sad for his children.”

The actor then shared memories of working with Dane on Grey’s Anatomy, including Dane’s very first scene in the show—in which he stepped out of a shower in only a towel.

“He was the funniest man—he was such a joy to work with and I want to just remember him in that spirit because any time he was on set, he brought so much fun to it,” Dempsey said. “He had a great sense of humour. He was easy to work with. We got along instantly. First scene was him, you know, in all his glory, coming out of the bathroom with the towel on looking amazing, making you feel completely out of shape and insignificant.”

“We hit it off because it was never really any competition,” he continued. “There was just this wonderful mutual respect, he’s wickedly intelligent and I’m always going to remember those moments of fun that we had together and celebrate the joy that he did bring to people’s lives and the real loss is for us who don’t have them anymore.”

Dempsey also praised Dane for being an advocate for ALS funding and research in the months preceding his death.

“He did an incredible job at bringing awareness to this horrible disease and those remaining days and it just reminds us that we all have to celebrate every day like it’s our last day,” he added. “It’s something that we have to remember and certainly in a world where there is just so much crisis and there is so much tragedy that we really need to be grateful for every moment that we have … spend time with our families, do things that are better, that benefit of other people to be of service to be kind, to be loving.”

In an exclusive interview with Parade published just weeks before his death, Dempsey revealed he recently talked to Dane, and even tried to get him a guest spot on his new Fox TV series Memory of a Killer.

“I spoke to him a few weeks ago. I’ve been texting with him. We were trying to get him in [Memory of a Killer] but unfortunately, the progression of his disease made it virtually impossible,” Dempsey said at the time. “But I was happy to see that he was here in Toronto working on, I think, another medical drama [Brilliant Minds].”

“It’s very hard for him, but I do try to stay in touch and see how he’s doing. I think he’s been incredibly courageous in the face of this horrible disease,” he continued. “He’s such a wonderful human being. He has such a great sense of humor, and he’s so intelligent. I’ve always enjoyed working and being around Eric. It’s heartbreaking. It really is. For him and for his family. You feel for them when you see this terrible disease and how quickly it attacks the body. But he’s bringing a lot of light to that, and he’s using his platform in a positive way. I wish him the best.”

Dane's family confirmed his passing via a statement to Parade.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the statement continued. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Dane shares daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, with Rebecca Gayheart.

Eric Dane's Wife Rebecca Gayheart Withdrew Divorce Filing After His ALS Diagnosis  — Here's Why

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:54am

In the months before Eric Dane’s death at 53, his wife Rebecca Gayheart chose presence.

Gayheart, 54, withdrew her divorce filing after Dane went public with his ALS diagnosis in April 2025—a decision she later explained was rooted in family.

Speaking on the Broad Ideas podcast with hosts Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen last November, she said she wanted to teach their daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, to show up for family even “when times are at their worst.”

“We tell them, ‘We show up for people no matter what. He is our family. He is your father,’” Gayheart shared. “We will get through it the best we can.”

The couple married in 2004, and Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018 after 13 years of marriage. Though they had been separated for eight years as she recalled in the episode, she called off the filing last March—just one month before Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis. During that same podcast interview, she described their dynamic as “super complicated” and admitted she wasn’t sure if she was handling the situation “the wrong way or right way” by withdrawing the petition. “I’m just showing up and trying to be there for [my kids]. I guess time will tell,” she said.

Then, in an essay for The Cut published in December, Gayheart clarified that she and Dane “haven’t lived in the same home for eight years,” explaining that their bond had shifted into something different. Their “love may not be romantic, but it’s a familial love,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, the Grey’s Anatomy star continued living his life publicly amid his health battle. Last June, he walked the red carpet hand-in-hand with filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff at the premiere of his Amazon Prime series Countdown. Though neither confirmed their relationship, the appearance suggested the two might have been romantically involved.

Dane died on Thursday, February 19.

What Was the No. 1 Song on February 20, 1974?

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:33am

Memories…

When Barbra Streisandknocked Ringo Starr's "You're Sixteen" off the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on February 2, 1974, she finally achieved something that had eluded her for over a decade in the music business—a number one hit. "The Way We Were," the achingly beautiful ballad from her romantic drama of the same name, claimed the top spot and held strong through February 20, 1974, nestled between Love Unlimited Orchestra's "Love's Theme" and Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun." The song would spend three weeks total at number one that year and went on to become Billboard's top single of 1974.

"The Way We Were" was an instant hit when it was released on Feb. 20, 1974.

What made this particular ballad resonate so deeply with audiences? Well, for starters, it served as the love theme for one of the year's biggest movies—a sweeping romantic drama (some say melodrama, meant in the deragotory sense!) directed by Sydney Pollack that paired Streisand with a swoon-worthy Robert Redford. The film told the bittersweet story of Katie Morosky, a passionate Jewish political activist, and Hubbell Gardiner, an easygoing WASP writer. The two meet in college during the 1930s, reconnect after World War II and fall into an intense romance despite being complete opposites. Their relationship unfolds against the backdrop of Hollywood's Red Scare and the blacklist era, with their fundamental differences ultimately proving too much to overcome. It's both hearthbreaking and a lil' cheesy.

The role of Katie was written specifically for Streisand by playwright Arthur Laurents, who adapted his own 1972 novel for the screenplay. Getting Redford on board proved more difficult—he turned down the role twice before finally agreeing, and Streisand later credited his initial reluctance with ultimately making the character more interesting. But enough about the movie—we're here for the music!

All About the Making of the The Way We Were

The song (written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman and Marvin Hamlisch)  was developed specifically with Streisand in mind. “You are tailor-making a song for an artist,” said composer Hamlisch. “And if it's Barbra Streisand it has to fit her until she's comfortable.”

The singer also had some say in the song itself, too. Hamlisch originally wrote the lyrics beginning with "Daydreams light the corners of your mind," but Streisand made a suggestion: change it to "Memories."

Recording the track wasn't easy either. Legendary session bassist Carol Kaye, who played on the song, said the richly orchestrated number required 33 takes to get right. Yes, 33. Streisand recorded it live with a full string section and members of the Wrecking Crew backing her up on September 12, 1973. Producer Marty Paich worked through the night—four hours of recording followed by four hours of mixing!—to complete what he knew would be a hit.

The song almost didn't make it into the film at all. According to Hamlisch, "The Way We Were" was cut from the original version of the movie. But after a disappointing screen test, he lobbied hard to rescore the final scene with the ballad. When audiences saw the finished film with the song included, they wept. The song stayed.

The Way We Were Became a Cultural Phenomenon

The accolades poured in. Hamlisch and the Bergmans won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 46th Academy Awards.

For Streisand, the song marked a pivotal moment in her career. She'd been a star since her Broadway debut at age 19 and had conquered stage, screen and albums—but a number one pop hit had remained elusive. "The Way We Were" changed that, selling over two million copies and earning platinum certification. The album of the same name, hastily assembled by producer Tommy LiPuma to capitalize on the single's success, also hit number one.

So on February 20, 1974, when you turned on the radio, you were hearing Barbra Streisand at the absolute peak of her powers, delivering a performance that would define her career and become a permanent part of the American songbook.

Kelly Ripa Hints at Leaving 'Live with Kelly and Mark'

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:25am

Kelly Ripa is speaking candidly about how long she plans to remain on Live with Kelly and Mark.

In an interview with Decider, Ripa opened up about the hosting role she has held for 25 years, as well as her future on the show. She reflected on the series' longevity and hinted at how much longer viewers can expect to see her behind the desk.

"I always say this job and this place is so special, that I really do believe in this show as a franchise. It’s a franchise show," she began.

"Before me, there was Regis [Philbin] and Kathie Lee [Gifford]. And before Kathie Lee, there was Regis and a myriad of other hosts."

Parade Daily🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Ripa continued, "I believe this show will continue on for as long as linear television exists. I believe that there are too many talented people out there that really deserve the opportunity to find their own audience and grow the audience the way they see fit. Because I don’t intend to work for the rest of my life. I really do not."

"I think we’ll all make that decision when the time comes. I think there’s a way to sort of get new people on board and have them test co-hosts, and get the audience used to other people. I think it’s important. I love this show too much to see it sort of ever end with us," Ripa concluded.

Ripa first auditioned for the role in 2001 after then-host Philbin invited her to test as a potential replacement for Gifford. During her episode, Los Angeles-based psychic Char Margolis made a statement that likely cemented Ripa's future with the series, as reported by the Toronto Sun.

https://www.youtube.com/live/i4eAB4_2NkI

During the segment, Margolis shared messages about Ripa’s late grandmother and spoke about the matriarch’s continued presence over the family. The emotional moment deepened when Margolis added that the grandmother would also be watching over Ripa’s soon-to-arrive baby.

"It's soon, it's not far away," the psychic said. "You're not pregnant yet, are you?"

"Excuse me," Philbin asked. "Are you expecting?"

Ripa started to laugh nervously before admitting, "I haven't told my boss yet," about her second pregnancy with daughter Lola Consuelos. At the time, she was working on the daytime soap opera All My Children and was already a mother to Michael with husband Mark Consuelos, and the couple would later welcome a son, Joaquin.

However long Kelly Ripa remains at the helm of Live, she says she’s committed to delivering the upbeat, feel-good programming viewers have embraced since the show first premiered in 1983.

The 2025 Daytime Emmy winner told Decider, "Our job when we come on the air, we are fully cognizant that the viewers at home have had five hours of news programming. So we try to bring them a lighter, less anxiety-inducing side of what the headlines have to offer."

Live with Kelly and Mark airs weekday mornings in syndication. The series is filmed in New York City.

9 Subtle Self-Defeating Habits You Might Not Even Realize You're Doing, a Psychologist Warns

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:06am

Healthy habits—such as logging at least seven hours of quality sleep per night and 30 minutes of exercise on most days—can transform our lives. That's science, not hyperbole. Yet one psychologist warns that certain behaviors can hold us back, leaving us constantly playing catch-up. We don't mean in a toxic productivity way where every minute must be optimized, or we'll never meet an already unreachable target. Rather, some subtle, self-defeating habits can sabotage our abilities to even show up as the full, perfectly imperfect humans that we are.

"Self-defeating habits are behaviors that have become automatic, so much so that we don’t even think about them," Dr. Craig Kain, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist, tells Parade. "We just do them, and that’s the problem. Mindlessly repeating a self-defeating behavior can severely negatively impact all areas of our lives: our relationships, our career and our physical and emotional health."

He doesn't say any of the above or below to shame you. Self-defeating habits often have perfectly logical triggers, like childhood caretakers who expected perfection, and developed over time. They can be hard to break.

"In neurobiology, there is a saying that 'neurons that fire together, wire together,' which means the brain strengthens a system of neural pathways that are most repeated, thus forming a neural superhighway," Dr. Kain shares. "Since habits are repeated behaviors, our brains reinforce them each time we repeat them."

Reinforcement is great when it comes to sticking to the Mediterranean diet or putting your phone to bed two hours before you hit the hay. However, you'll want an off-ramp from the neural superhighway if you have any of these seven subtle self-defeating habits you might not realize you're doing. Dr. Kain also shares tips on how to move into the exit lane and break those self-defeating behaviors that are standing in the way of your own success.

1. Underestimating the time it takes to do something

Dr. Kain says humans are notoriously prone to believing they can get something done more quickly than they realistically can.

"We fail to include all the needed steps in our estimations, [such as] forgetting how long it may take to find parking when meeting a friend for dinner," he shares. "When we do this once, we are late for dinner. When we perpetually do this, we become someone who has a bad habit of always being late."

2. Trying too hard to do something someone else’s way

We often hear about how copping a my-way-or-the-highway attitude can sabotage growth. Yet it's possible to overcorrect, and it's better to find a reasonable middle lane instead.

"There is nothing wrong with seeking out help and advice," Dr. Kain notes. "Sometimes it can be very useful, but how things are done is not 'one size fits all.' If we keep wearing a hand-me-down pair of shoes that’s a size too small, we get a blister."

He says it's also possible to develop "emotional blisters."

"We feel lousy about ourselves, wondering why we can’t do what others can," he explains. "Social media does a lot to reinforce this self-defeating habit. It’s easy to go from one influencer’s cure for whatever ails us to the next, to the next, without giving ourselves space and time to pause and consider what will really work for us."

3. Not sleeping on it

Dr. Kain warns that this subtle, self-defeating habit doesn't account for the fact that we humans sometimes fall into traps of giving automatic responses and behaving impulsively.

"Acting this way over and over reinforces this behavior until impulsiveness becomes habitual. Sometimes a snap decision can be great," Dr. Kain reports. "Oftentimes, especially when decisions have significant consequences, not taking the time to consider all of the consequences of our responses can have lasting negative results."

4. Not writing things down

Dr. Kain explains that memory is tricky.

"There are lots of things that influence our ability to hold on to information," he says. "Sometimes we are perfectly capable of recalling something important. Other times, it is nearly impossible."

Sounds logical. The issue is that because we remember some things, we convince ourselves we remember everything without writing it down, he notes. So we repeatedly don't.

"This habit often results in our inability to remember facts and details that can greatly affect our lives, particularly our relationships," he shares.

5. Avoiding doctors’ (and other important) appointments

You're busy. Doctors' offices and the possibility of red-flag lab results are scary. Still, it's vital to overcome these hurdles and avoid rationalizing self-defeating behaviors. It's tempting to think, "What I don't know won't hurt me," but that's simply not the case with your health.

"The outcome of so many health issues depends on early detection, and yet, most of us habitually postpone or delay doctor’s appointments until we absolutely have to go or just feel too guilty to put it off any longer," Dr. Kain highlights. "This habit is built around the notion of short-term gain at the expense of long-term benefits... but the cost of this habit can be enormous."

6. Telling ourselves scary stories

Dr. Kain shares that people can write stories. Some are entertaining, but others are frightening and self-defeating.

"Our brains have a difficult time distinguishing fact from fiction, so we believe our scary stories," he explains. "These are typically about the future and often include some type of catastrophic thinking, reinforcing the belief that something terribly wrong will happen."

He shares that it's important to recognize whether this behavior is becoming chronic, as it can wear you down over time.

"At first, we might question the validity of these stories, but as we repeat them over and over, they become more familiar, the act of telling them to ourselves more habitual, and believing them more compelling," he states.

7. Believing we can read other people’s minds

Spoiler alert: it's not possible.

"If we assume people are only thinking positively about us, this habit might prove advantageous," Dr. Kain says. "However, most of us assume that what others think of us is negative. Once this belief becomes firmly embedded in our psyche, our behavior changes. We lack self-esteem. We avoid people. We become socially isolated."

8. Doing too much, when less is more than OK

Even high-intensity interval training workouts give you a break from all-out, maximum efforts. Extend the same courtesy to yourself in other areas of your life.

"Doing more when less will do is not an easy habit to break, as we live in a society that rewards overachieving," Dr. Kain concedes. "But more isn’t always needed. Sometimes 'good enough' will do. Lots of things in our lives are 'pass/fail,' and working to get an A+ is not a productive use of our time and energy."

9. Should-ing all over ourselves

Real talk: "Telling ourselves how we should be acting, what we should be doing and what we should have done is an extremely self-defeating habit," Dr. Kain explains. "No one likes being told what to do."

You may not even particularly like this habit if you do notice it.

"Ironically, most of us don’t like it when we become our own critical parent and tell ourselves what to do," he notes. "If we did have a highly critical parent, it is extremely easy to hear their voice in our heads, telling us what we should have done. This typically results in our habitually regressing to a teenage state, where we walk around irritated and angry with ourselves."

3 Tips for Breaking These Common Habits1. Build awareness of self-defeating behaviors and patterns

We can't break habits we don't know that we have.

"One way to become more aware is to keep a journal in which self-defeating behaviors are tracked and recorded," Dr. Kain suggests. "Over time, patterns will become clear, allowing us to recognize self-defeating habits. If we find it difficult to observe our behavioral patterns, close friends are often very happy to point them out to us."

2. Pause

Dr. Kain shares that habitual behaviors can start to feel automatic and impulsive over time, so taking a pause is key. He suggests using the moment to (gently) ask yourself, "Am I going in the intended direction through behavior that supports me?"

"Sometimes taking a beat before we do anything can be enough to stop the cycle of automatic, habitual behavior," he says. "If we want to take things a step further, we can begin a regular mindfulness practice. With practice, mindfulness could become its own healthy habit."

3. Form new habits

As you move past self-defeating habits, Dr. Kain notes that you'll have a void. Filling it is an opportunity, though he says that people can fall into the hole of developing another self-defeating habit.

"We have to establish new habits to edge out and replace self-defeating ones," he urges. "One way to do this is to reward new behaviors. To break a self-defeating habit, we need to make sure that a new, more attractive [reward] awaits us."

Universal Just Made It Cheaper to Visit All Four Parks—Including Epic Universe

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:01am

If you've been trying to budget for a trip to Orlando lately, you know that access to the city's newest gate, Universal Epic Universe, has been famously complicated.

When the park first opened in 2025, it was strictly a standalone experience—meaning you had to buy an individual day pass (which could run as high as $199) with no option to visit the other parks on the same day.

Earlier this year, Universal loosened those restrictions by adding Epic Universe to its three-day "park hopper" passes, but even then, the logistics of a full week were still a puzzle.

This week, that puzzle finally got a lot easier to solve. Universal Orlando Resort has officially introduced an all-new weeklong ticket that bridges the gap between the legacy parks and the new world of Epic Universe.

The new offer gives U.S. residents six or seven days of "park-to-park" access to all four parks: Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Volcano Bay and Epic Universe.

The biggest win for travelers is the price point: For a limited time, you can snag these six- or seven-day bundles for the same price as a standard five-day ticket. By essentially banking two "free" days of access, families can comfortably settle into an on-site stay for their entire vacation without feeling the pressure to split their time—or their budget—with other area attractions.

This extra time also solves one of the most common theme park dilemmas: the struggle to enjoy those resort amenities during the precious afternoon hours without feeling like you're "wasting" a park ticket. With these extended passes, guests finally have the freedom to mix and match their perfect vacation—whether that's a morning at Epic Universe followed by a lazy afternoon at the pool, or a late-night stroll through CityWalk—all on their own schedule.

To sweeten the pot, the new ticket can be paired with a $300 dining credit for guests staying five nights or longer at select Universal Orlando hotels. This includes the retro-styled Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort, the Universal Aventura Hotel, and the newest additions to the skyline, Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort.

Universal isn’t the only major player in Orlando trying to make a weeklong vacation more palatable for families this year. Just across town in Lake Buena Vista, Walt Disney World is also leaning into the "more time for less" strategy with its own competitive "Cool KIDS’ SUMMER" promotion.

That deal offers a similar value proposition, giving guests two free nights and two free theme park days when they purchase a four-night room-and-ticket package. Between Universal’s new 7-for-5 deal and Disney’s summer incentives, it is shaping up to be a rare season where the biggest names in theme parks are actively competing to see who can offer the most "free" vacation days.

And for Universal super fans who found the initial "one park per day" rules too restrictive, this update finally makes Epic Universe feel like a standard part of the Universal experience. It’s a significant shift in strategy that makes a week in the parks both more flexible and, finally, a little bit cheaper.

Carrie Underwood’s Breakout Hit, Ranked Among ‘100 Greatest Songs of All Time,’ Almost Went To Another Singer

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 5:00am

Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” became an instant smash upon release, helping to solidify the singer as a vocal powerhouse with the promise of longevity well beyond her 2005 win on American Idol

The chart-topping song served as the now Idol judge's breakthrough hit, appearing on her debut album, Some Hearts. But, surprisingly, the spiritual-leaning country ballad about a mother who loses control behind the wheel in the dead of winter, and pleads through prayer for divine intervention, almost went to someone else.

The Song Was Nearly Cut by Lady A’s Hillary Scott

According to Taste of Country, “Jesus Take the Wheel” was originally pitched to Hillary Scott as a solo artist before she became known as one of the members of the successful country trio Lady A. At the time, Scott had a development deal with a Nashville record label.

Carrie Underwood Had Not Won American Idol Yet

“It was one of my favorites, and then that was all right in the time she was on American Idol,” Scott told the outlet of Underwood’s journey and the song’s trajectory. "She was a country artist on American Idol, which was amazing, and that song really spoke to her."

"She goes on to take it, and it’s a huge hit, and the message of the song is so beautiful," she continued of the tune’s major success. “It’s neat to have watched the journey — the journey of that song — because they all have their own."

Chart Success and Award Wins

Written by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, and Gordie Sampson, "Jesus, Take the Wheel" became Underwood’s first No. 1 and a defining moment in her career. The song struck an immediate chord with fans, spending six consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, cracking the Top 20 of the Hot 100, and crossing over onto the Christian and Adult Contemporary charts.

The song’s impact extended well beyond radio, earning a handful of awards, including a Grammy for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Underwood also won an ACM Award for Single of the Year for the song.

In the years since, “Jesus Take the Wheel” has continued to resonate, landing on various “best of” lists, including Grand Ole Opry’s 100 Greatest Country Songs of all time, compiled in honor of Opry’s 100th anniversary year. The fan-voted ranking placed George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” country classic at No. 1, putting Underwood in good company.

The performance, shared on Entertainment Tonight’s Instagram, had fans rejoicing and singing along to the classic French hook: “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?”

The caption celebrated the reunion, noting, “It’s been 25 years but they’re still two [explicit] chicks from the Moulin Rouge!

The crowd’s energy and the performance’s flawless delivery were proof that Mya and Lil' Kim still command the stage after two and a half decades. Fans were treated to the same bold and empowering vibe that made the 2001 release unforgettable.

This highly anticipated appearance marks the first time Mya and Lil' Kim have performed the song live together since the original recording, which famously featured Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Mya and Lil' Kim, produced by Missy Elliott and Rockwilder for Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge!.

“Lady Marmalade” became a cultural phenomenon shortly after its release on March 10, 2001. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks and topped charts in over 15 countries, including the UK and Australia. It was the top-selling single of 2001, surpassing five million copies sold worldwide, and won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.

The original collaboration wasn’t a formal girl group but a supergroup created solely for the film’s soundtrack. Each artist brought her own signature style to the track: Christina’s powerhouse pop vocals, P!nk’s soulful rock edge, Mya’s sultry R&B tones and Lil' Kim’s bold hip-hop rap verse. Missy Elliott contributed her iconic intro and outro rap, ensuring the track’s enduring appeal across genres.

Mya recently reflected on the experience, emphasizing that the supposed tension between members never affected the project.

“I personally never witnessed any catfights, nothing,” Mya told PEOPLE in 2025. She recalled the camaraderie during rehearsals, where the four women learned choreography together and even enjoyed a lunch break at a Mexican restaurant, bonding outside of work.

“It was really cool, campy, chill vibes,” she said.

Mya has also teased the possibility of a full reunion with Christina Aguilera and P!nk, saying in prior interviews that she hopes all four women can come together to perform the track again.

“All I can say is fingers crossed,” she told PEOPLE.

As one fan captured it perfectly, “This is iconic 🔥❤️ eternal Moulin Rouge 💃🏽.”

For long-time fans, the performance at The Kia Forum was a nostalgic trip and a promising glimpse of more to come.

No. 1 Sitcom Ranked ‘Best TV Show of the ‘70s’ Featured One of the Longest Audience Laughs in History

Fri, 02/20/2026 - 4:55am

In early 1976, All in the Familywas the top-rated series on television. Created by Norman Lear, the CBS comedy starred Carroll O’Connor, Jean Stapleton, Sally Struthers, and Rob Reiner as a working-class family living in Queens, New York.

All in the Family ran from January 1971 to April 1979 and was one of the first TV sitcoms to address controversial topics such as racism, abortion, and draft dodging. The series also spawned multiple spinoffs, including Maude, The Jeffersons, and Archie Bunker's Place.

In December 2025, TV Line ranked All in the Family as the best TV show of the 1970s. The classic comedy beat out Happy Days, The  Mary Tyler Moore Show and even M*A*S*H for the top spot. The outlet noted that the nine-season story arc for O’Connor’s Archie Bunker “encapsulated the changes in viewpoints and voices rising nationwide during the show's run, never quite redeeming Archie but softening his stance somewhat.” TV Line described All in the Family as “both a comedy classic and a groundbreaking piece of television Americana.”

The longest laugh

One of the most memorable All in the Family episodes aired nearly 55 years ago. The Feb. 19, 1972, episode, titled “Sammy’s Visit,” featured Archie Bunker moonlighting as a cab driver. Guest star Sammy Davis Jr. showed up at the Bunker’s door on Hauser Street after leaving his briefcase in Archie’s cab. Following an exchange about Archie’s prejudice—Davis told him, "You ain’t better than anybody”— the legendary singer insisted the two pose for a photo together.

After a countdown to three, Davis planted an unexpected kiss on Archie's cheek, and the All in the Family patriarch’s stunned face prompted a laugh from the studio audience that was so long, producers had to cut some of it from the final show.

In an interview with the Television Academy Foundation, All in the Family producer John Rich recalled that the original ending to the famous episode was “weak.”

“When we read the text the first time around the table, it had a very weak finish,” he said. “The finish was that a neighbor came from next door and wanted to take a picture, and Archie said, ‘No, no  pictures,’ and Sammy said, ‘No, no I want a picture, but you and me together, I want to remember this day or whatever that was.’ And they took the picture, and then he said goodbye.”

Rich said he took Lear aside and told him the episode needed a stronger ending.

“I said, 'I have an idea… I  want Sammy to kiss Archie,'" he shared, noting that Lear was not “keen” on the idea at first. “He finally said, ‘Yeah, let's try it,’” Rich added. “And of course it was one of the great laughs in show business…  We went in and Archie took that look of surprise, and then the audience just went berserk. We had to cut the laugh. I mean, it was so long, it went on for over a minute.”

Gold Derby described Davis’s iconic kiss on Archie Bunker’s cheek as “one of the most memorable moments of the medium.”
