Beloved Metal Band Earns 18th No. 1 Hit Song Amid 2026 Tour
Legendary heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch has secured their 18th No. 1 hit. The major milestone was reached on Monday when the band's most recent single, "Eye Of The Storm," topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
"Eye Of The Storm" was released on May 15 as the official lead single from their highly anticipated 10th studio album, Legacy. The new album is slated for release on July 31 and marks their first new music drop since their 2022 studio album, AfterLife.
The track becomes their 18th single to top the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, continuing their record-breaking run for the most consecutive number-one hits in the 45-year history of the chart. The feat is the perfect way to commemorate nearly 20 years of music as the band wraps up their North American 20th Anniversary Tour.

1979 Film Was Just Crowned the 'Greatest Sci-Fi Movie Based on a Book'
While perusing the catalogue of acclaimed science fiction films, one can't help but notice that many aren't original ideas. For instance, the publication Collider recently compiled a list of popular sci-fi films that have plots derived from books.
The July 2026 list, titled "the 10 greatest sci-fi movies based on books, ranked," included films like 1982's The Thing, Children of Men from 2006, andBlade Runner, also released in 1982. Collider put Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 film Stalker, which has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 100 percent, at the top of the ranking.
The film's screenwriters, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, used their own 1972 book, Roadside Picnic, as the basis of Stalker's script. In a 1979 interview with Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra, Tarkovsky shared he once believed that fellow filmmaker Giorgi Kalatozishvili would like to take on a project inspired by Roadside Picnic.
"At one time I had recommended to my friend, the director Georgy Kalatozisvili [sic], that he read the short novel Roadside Picnic, thinking that perhaps he might be interested in making a cinematic adaption of it," said Tarkovsky, who died in 1986 when he was 54. "Then, I don't know how, Kalatozisvili [sic] was not able to come to an agreement with the Strugatsky brothers, the authors of the novel, and so he abandoned the idea for that film."
He then said he realized that his own film version of Roadside Picnic could be an expression of different philosophical ideas.
"Every once in a while, that idea began to come to my mind again. Then increasingly it seemed to me that from that novel one could make a film with a unity of place, of time, and of action," said Tarkovsky while speaking to Guerra. "These classic Aristotelian unities, it seemed to me, allow one to arrive at authentic cinema, which for me is not the so-called action cinema, exterior cinema, outwardly dynamic cinema. I believed that the subject which the screenplay would be based on permitted one to express in a very concentrated manner the philosophy, so to speak, of the contemporary intellectual. Or rather, his condition."
He also clarified that the book and the film have quite a few distinctions.
"Although I must say that the screenplay of Stalker has only two words, two names, in common with the Strugatskys' novel Roadside Picnic: Stalker and Zone," explained the filmmaker during the 1979 interview.

'Born This Way' Star Cristina Sanz Dead at 36
Cristina Sanz, who starred in the A&E show "Born This Way," has died at the age of 36 after suffering a heart issue.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our daughter, Cristina, passed away Monday morning," a statement on Sanz's Instagram page reads. "She suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at her Day Program and was rushed to the hospital. Despite the doctors' best efforts to stabilize her heart, she did not survive. We are grateful that we were able to be by her side at the end.
"Her death was a total shock and unexpected. We will forever treasure the gift of her life. We will all carry in our hearts the wonderful 'Cristina moments' that she gave us."
TMZ further reported that Sanz's parents, Mariano and Beatriz, told the outlet that she went into cardiac arrest.
Sanz was on all four seasons of the hit show, which followed adults with Down syndrome. She appeared alongside her husband, Angel. Their wedding was shown on an episode; however, the two split up in 2021. The A&E series won the 2016 Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program along with two additional Emmys in 2017, for Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program and Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program.
Following the news of Sanz's passing, A&E released a statement, paying tribute.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Cristina Sanz, who touched the hearts of many through her time on Born This Way," the network said, per PEOPLE. "We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.”
Best-Selling Author’s 1988 Novel Ranked Among the Best Books of All Time
In case you missed it, J.R.R. Tolkien’s triple-volumed magnum opus, The Lord of the Rings, was ranked the very best book of all time by Collider. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t several more page-turners to uncover in the list.
Namely, the outlet’s No. 3 best book of all time: Don DeLillo’s Libra.
View this post on InstagramOne of the modern era's most acclaimed works of historical fiction, Libra is tucked neatly between Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace and Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow. According to the article’s author, DeLillo’s masterclass in occult history earned its Top 5 ranking solely because of the writer’s “personal pick.” But despite the self-indulgent decision (which is any writer’s prerogative), DeLillo’s novel is typically one of the usual suspects present on both fan and expert lists, from Goodreads to The New York Times.
So, while surprising, it isn't entirely unexpected.
“Libra is one of several masterpieces by Don DeLillo,” the outlet writes, “with it being recognizably DeLillo-ian, albeit he’s operating outside of his comfort zone, to some extent, due to him playing around with actual people and real historical events.”
Published by Penguin Books in August 1988, DeLillo’s novel blends fact and fiction to explore the 1963assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Told through protagonist Lee Harvey Oswald, the character study revisits a turning point in American history, meandering through the alienated misfit’s life while also imagining a CIA-linked conspiracy that intertwines with the historical tragedy.
“Things are reinterpreted and reimagined in fascinating ways,” Collider writes, “with DeLillo himself admitting that it’s not supposed to be historically accurate. Libra is historical fiction, and it uses a hugely significant event from the 20th century to explore uncertainty, anxiety, and fate, alongside some other broad themes, all the while being a novel about frustration that itself isn't frustrating.”
Libra is DeLillo’s ninth novel in a long string of brilliant reads that includes Americana, Underworld, and White Noise. A finalist for a National Book Award for Fiction, Libra also marked the author’s first best seller. Just 26 when JFK was killed in Dallas, DeLillo wrote a piece titled "American Blood" for Rolling Stone in 1983. According to the publication, that essay became the “précis for Libra.”
“When it happened, I was not a fully formed writer,” he told the magazine. “I had only published some short stories in small quarterlies. As I was working on Libra, it occurred to me that a lot of tendencies in my first eight novels seemed to be collecting around the dark center of the assassination. So, it’s possible I wouldn’t have become the kind of writer I am if it weren’t for the assassination.”
According to Goodreads, the book is named after Oswald's zodiac sign, an astrological symbol that is widely recognized for having a highly contradictory personality. A sort of paradox, Libras can be social and detached, or peace loving and argumentative—quite fitting, actually, for a novel about fact and fiction.
In the author’s note that concludes Libra, DeLillo wrote, “This is a work of the imagination. While drawing from the historical record, I’ve made no attempt to furnish factual answers to any questions raised by the assassination.”
He added that he wants readers to think “about the assassination without being constrained by half-facts or overwhelmed by possibilities, by the tide of speculation that widens with the years.”

Ozzy Osborne Once Claimed This '80s Rock Band Was the Only Band Who 'Outshone' Black Sabbath
Game will always recognize game, and that seems to be the case between two late rock icons: Ozzy Osbourne and Eddie Van Halen. Though one was distinctly the pioneer of heavy metal, while the other was a pioneer of arena rock bands, the energy and presence both brought to the stage were nearly immeasurable.
The 1978 tour was a landmark for Black Sabbath; not only did it mark their eighth studio album, Never Say Die!, but it was also their final tour together as the original lineup with Osbourne at the helm.
The European Tour That Changed Everything
They toured with rising stars Van Halen as their opener, and quickly learned that the record label was far more interested in the opening act than the headliner. According to a passage shared by Louder from the unauthorized biography Eruption: The Eddie Van Halen Story, Osbourne recalled having a very frank discussion with some of the label reps about it.
"I remember being in a hotel room in San Diego with Geezer and one of the reps from the record company," Osbourne claimed, "and we’d had a few drinks, and one of us said to this guy, 'Be honest, you’re only using us on this tour to promote Van Halen, aren’t you?' And he said, 'You’re right.' And if you’re with a record company that won’t back you..."
Osbourne went on to say that by this point, Sabbath had been tied up in a lot of legal drama with their old manager, and he claimed the band had just lost their gumption. But it didn't diminish Osbourne's respect for the iconic band.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Osbourne once told Billy Morrison during a 2024 episode of “Ozzy Speaks” on SiriusXM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard. “(Eddie Van Halen) made it look so [redacted] easy. They outshone us. They blew us off the stage."
“Eddie was a great guy,” Osbourne also conceded. “He was always nice with me. He was a lovely man to be around, and Alex (Van Halen). I took all of them down to my local pub… That was [redacted] great.”
The respect appeared to be mutual. On Osbourne's radio show, he also once detailed, according to Vulture, that sometime after Sammy Hagar left the band, he received a call from the guitar virtuoso himself.
"He phoned me up one time and asked me if I wanted to sing in his band,” Osbourne said, according to the outlet. “Way after Sammy. I think he was a bit drunk. We’ve all done one of them calls at four o’clock in the morning.”
Imagine the absolute killer combo that would have been born of their two talents? I'm not sure the world could have even handled it.

Legendary '80s Rocker Returns to Touring After Major Surgery - 'He Sounds So Much Better'
After an extended recovery period, the music world is finally reunited with the legendary Jon Bon Jovi, who has been sidelined for a number of years after a serious vocal surgery. The artist revealed in 2022 that he was to be hospitalized for a major vocal chord surgery after one of his vocal chords reportedly "atrophied."
Since then, the iconic '80s group Bon Jovi hasn't seen the stage. Bon Jovi had to rest his vocal chords for a long to be able to perform the way he used to. Now, that wait has come to an end. The band has kicked off their "Forever" tour, and they sound good as new.

Linda Ronstadt Hired Two Unknowns for 1971 Disneyland Concert--Accidentally Assembling One of Rock's Greatest Bands
In 1971, nobody at Disneyland knew they were watching the birth of one of the biggest rock bands in American history.
The two musicians on stage that night were hired hands, paid for a gig, and expected to play and go home. One of them is now the last original member standing, playing farewell shows to sold-out stadiums in 2026. The other one didn't make it this far.
The night was July 12, 1971. Linda Ronstadt was already making a name for herself in the Los Angeles music scene, three albums in and on the verge of a commercial breakthrough that would make her one of the decade's biggest-selling artists. Her manager, John Boylan, had put together a backing band for her Silk Purse Tour, calling on four relatively unknown musicians from the California country-rock scene: Don Henley on drums, Glenn Frey on guitar, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner. None of them had any particular reason to be memorable that night. They were there to back a singer, collect their pay, and go home.

All four of them, Henley, Frey, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner, were on that stage. It was the only time the original lineup ever played together, backing up Ronstadt. One gig. One night. But the chemistry was undeniable, and two of them weren't willing to let that go to waste.
Glenn Frey later described what happened in his own words during his 2014 induction of Ronstadt into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "In the spring of 1971, she hired a singing drummer from Linden, Texas, named Don Henley to play in her backup band," Frey said. "While touring with Linda that summer, Don and I told her that we wanted to start our own band, and she, more than anyone else, helped us put together the Eagles."
Ronstadt remembered it the same way. "Glenn and Don were rooming together, and they each discovered the other could sing and was a great songwriter," she told Billboard. "Glenn used to call Don his secret weapon. He said, 'I'm gonna do a band with Don. We're gonna do a band together.' I said, 'That's a great idea.'"
A secret weapon who happened to be a drummer nobody had ever heard of and who's now the last one standing.
Ronstadt wasn't exactly waiting for things to happen either. While Henley and Frey were building The Eagles, she was building one of the most decorated careers in American music. Heart Like a Wheel, Simple Dreams, Living in the USA, three consecutive multi-platinum albums in the mid-to-late 1970s. The woman whose Disneyland gig accidentally launched the Eagles turned out to need no launching herself.
Within months of that Disneyland performance, the four musicians signed with David Geffen's new Asylum Records label. They drove out to the Mojave Desert, took peyote and tequila, and came up with a name. The Eagles released their self-titled debut album on June 1, 1972. Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Peaceful Easy Feeling. It went Platinum almost immediately.
What came next is one of the most remarkable stories in American music history. Hotel California, Desperado, Life in the Fast Lane, Lyin' Eyes. Five number-one singles. Six number-one albums. Six Grammys. Over 200 million records sold worldwide. Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) became and still is the best-selling album in US history, certified at 40 million copies.
All of it traces back to a single night at Disneyland.
From Sleeping Beauty's Castle to Their Final BowGlenn Frey died on January 16, 2016, at just 67 years old. The man who had called Don Henley his secret weapon, who had said "I'm gonna do a band with Don" in a shared hotel room on the road with Linda Ronstadt, didn't get to make it to the farewell.
His son Deacon Frey has performed with the Eagles in his father's place, alongside Vince Gill. The current lineup, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, has been completing The Long Goodbye farewell tour, which began in 2023.
In February 2026, Henley sat down with CBS Sunday Morning and said what many fans had been expecting to hear. "I think this year will probably be it," he said. "I feel like we're getting toward the end. And that will be fine too."
The Long Goodbye Act III added a final run of stadium shows in Atlanta, Nashville and Arlington in May 2026, with Tedeschi Trucks Band as guests. The Eagles have played over 1,000 concerts and sold 16 million tickets over their career.
The drummer nobody had heard of at that 1971 Disneyland gig is now the last original member of The Eagles, playing his final shows in front of stadiums full of people who know every single word to their entire catalog.
Two unknown hired hands showed up at Disneyland in 1971 to do what they loved. They weren't there to make any major changes. They were there to get paid. Fifty-five years later, the music they made is still rated the best-selling in American history, and the man who played drums that night is taking his last bow.
Beloved '70s Singer, With No. 1 Hit Song, Turns 76
Leroy Gómez, the saxophonist and original singer of Santa Esmeralda, turned 76 years old on Wednesday. He is best known for his impact on the disco and Latin music genres in the 1970s.
When Gómez was just 12 years old, he was learning how to sing and play the saxophone, with encouragement from one of his teachers. Two years later, he started his own band before joining Tavares, a local group of brothers from Camp Verde, and they toured around North and South America. In 1973, Gómez briefly worked with Elton John, who invited him to play the saxophone on "Social Disease," a song from his 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Amidst this success, Gómez decided to leave Tavares and stay in Europe, getting work as a session player in Paris.

After living in Paris for a few years, Gómez met French producers Nicolas Skorsky and Jean Manuel de Scarano in 1977, who were forming a band called Santa Esmeralda. They recruited him to sing the track "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," which ended up being the group's top hit.
Originally written in 1964 for Nina Simone, which failed to chart, the song was picked up by British rock band the Animals the following year, to great success. Santa Esmeralda decided to revamp the hit into a disco song, which was a genre trending during that decade, and added Latin and flamenco elements. The song became a hit for the second time, first topping Billboard's U.S Disco chart and its remix version on the Club Play Singles chart. In addition, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 15.
"[One of the] key elements to the success of Santa Esmeralda were the original arrangements written by Don Ray (Raymond Donez). He was one of the important elements to the success of Santa Esmeralda," Gómez told Copper Clippings in a Q&A back in 2016. He also told the independent publication that he was not prepared for the success of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood."
"We had no idea it was going to explode like it did. Without any promotion whatsoever, it became a hit in France and then in the world almost by accident," he revealed. "I was prepared as an artist, sure, I had worked at my craft and was very comfortable in any situation, any type of music, in any style. As far as the music business and the treachery of the music business …. no, no, no I was definitely not ready for that!"

Despite the success of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and Santa Esmeralda, Gómez left after a year to focus on a solo career. He released two solo albums: Gypsy Woman in 1978 and I Got It Band in 1979, both with Casablanca Records. Santa Esmeralda replaced Gómez with Jimmy Goings and released a dance cover for "The House of the Rising Sun," which was also by the Animals and became a hit.
As of today, Gómez is still very active in the industry and performing around the world. The 76-year-old singer occasionally posts on Instagram, where he shares throwbacks, performances and saxophone clips to his followers.

Breakups are known to be great inspiration for songs. But you don't hear a writer admitting to ending a relationship because they hit a writer's block.
That's what Lamont Dozier did then wrote "Come See About Me" by The Supremes. He revealed how his ex-girlfriend felt about it.
The Story Behind 'Come See About Me' by The SupremesDozier wrote for the Four Tops and the Isley Brothers. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer also worked with Phil Collins. He told Song Facts that he would break up with someone to write.
"I would do that when I hit a wall or I couldn't seem to get my head working in the right direction," the singer said. "Or if I couldn't come up with the right feelings and I needed an idea for a love song."
Dozier and Brian Hollandwanted to make upbeat music despite the meaning behind it. That's the case for "Come See About Me" which was made with a surprising method.
"All the songs were love songs, basically," he continued. "I started realizing that I could come up with new ideas or spark the energy of my mind when I had arguments with my girlfriend, or whoever the girl was. And that would spark an idea to write a song about love or unrequited love or whatever kind of love, and to write an appropriate lyric to that feeling. I got away with that for a while."
The songwriter admitted some of the women found out later because of his interviews and were "pissed." He was married three times. His third marriage with Barbara Ullman lasted until her death in 2021.

'DWTS' Champ Robert Irwin Reveals The Piece of Advice He Gave to Season 35 Contestant Jackson Olson
Dancing With The Stars winner Robert Irwin is imparting wisdom on the next group of ballroom dance hopefuls.
Chatting on Good Morning America on Wednesday morning, the famed wildlife conservationist got to talking about the upcoming season of DWTS as several contestants have been announced, including Savannah Bananas baseball player Jackson Olson.
"I actually caught up with Jackson," Irwin shared with the GMA team. "He was saying, 'What kind of advice do you have, Robert?' I said, 'Mate, the thing is, anyone who does this show, I say, you've got to lean in, you've got to let go, enjoy the process, trust your partner, and try to tell your story, that's what sets Dancing with the Stars apart."
Irwin, who quickly became a fan favorite on Season 34 of the ballroom dance competition and ultimately took home the mirrorball trophy, went on to share how the show not only became a new platform for him to speak about wildlife conservation, but a personal journey to process his grief years after losing his dad, Steve Irwin.
"It's so much more than dancing," he continued. "I felt like I could tell my message, my life, my journey through grief, and my family, my love, conservation, all of these things through movement. So I'm excited for this new crop to get in there, get into it, and everyone I'm seeing, they want to be there, they want to give it everything. So we're in for a pretty cool season."

As for Olson himself, now as the announcement of him joining the show has been out, he's slowly been sharing more an more information about participating in the show as well as his rehearsal schedule.
“The dancer that I’m paired with is actually going to come on tour with us while we’re playing,” he shared in May. “I’m going to play my games, we’re going to rehearse our dance. It’s going to be the craziest schedule I’ve ever been on, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Admitting he was "very nervous," he also said, "I think as we get closer to the show, I’m just going to be excited.”
Other contestants that have been announced for Season 35 include Summer House star Ciara Miller,Love Island star Maura Higgins and Jimmy Kimmel Live sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez.

'Full House' Star John Stamos Explains Why He Refuses to Join 'Dancing with the Stars'
On July 7, John Stamos' episode on Bobby Bones' The Bobbycast podcast premiered. While some of the conversation focused on his Full House days and Bob Saget, things took an interesting turn when Stamos admitted that he had no idea Bones had been on — and won —Dancing With the Stars. The interviewee began asking his interviewer a flurry of questions.
"Wait, so you were on there? You won?" Stamos asked. "Were you a dancer before? And you won that thing?" While Bones tried to steer the conversation back to his point, Stamos clearly wanted to know more.
"So why did you get on?" Stamos continued. "They just asked you, and you thought, 'F**k it, I'm going to do this, and I'm going to take the challenge of my life?"
Why Stamos Constantly Rejects the ShowAfter Bones explained why he agreed to Dancing With the Stars, he finally managed to take back control, asking Stamos, "So how many times have you been asked to do that show?"
"Every single season," Stamos claimed. "I said, 'Stop, don't ever ask me again. I'm never going to do that show."
Bones tried to convince him that he'd "love it," but Stamos wasn't having it.
"What makes that show good is people suffering and looking like fools," he explained. "They're breaking their feet, and you know, the calluses."
Ironically, one of Bones' fellow contestants was Stamos' Fuller House co-star, Juan Pablo Di Pace. Once he realized that Bones had won, despite Di Pace getting "tens every single week," Stamos couldn't hide his shock. "How did you get more votes than the guy from Fuller House?" he exclaimed.
A Decade of Turning Down the Dance FloorWhile it may seem like Stamos was exaggerating when he claimed he's asked to appear on the ABC reality show every year, he was first mentioned as a dream guest by professional dancer Karina Smirnoff in 2010. "I have a wish to dance with John Stamos," she told PEOPLE at the time. "He could be a great dancer."
But even then, Stamos knew that was something he definitely wasn't interested in. "I’m not doing Dancing with the Stars. Flattered to be asked,” he wrote on X (via PEOPLE). "I’m not a dancer. I’d put my foot in my mouth faster thanJohn Mayer."

‘Heated Rivalry’ Breakout Star Earns First Emmy Nomination—But Not for the Hit Series
Connor Storrie, known for his portrayal of Ilya Rozanov in Heated Rivalry, has earned his very first Emmy nomination. But it’s not for the hockey drama series — instead, the 26-year-old snagged a nomination for guest starring on Saturday Night Live.
Variety reported that, despite being acquired by HBO Max for the U.S., Heated Rivalry was ineligible for the Emmy Awards since it’s funded by the Canadian company Bell Media. But that didn’t stop the Television Academy from recognizing Storrie.
Storrie is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series, “for his excellent work as Host of SNL's February 28 episode,” NBC wrote. Featuring musical guest Mumford & Sons, Storrie’s episode included cameos from Team USA’s Olympic hockey champions, as well as Storrie’s Heated Rivalry co-star Hudson Williams. NBC called the episode “an instant classic.”
“No one deserved this more than he did,” one fan commented on an Instagram post from Variety. “I’m bursting with pride for him.”
“Why am I crying as if this was my best friend being nominated?” Another fan joked in a comment on SNL's Instagram post.
During Storrie’s opening monologue on SNL, the actor reflected on what it meant to him to host an episode.
"I've only technically been a professional actor for like six months now," Storrie said. "But on the other hand, I've been preparing for this my entire life since I was a 12-year-old obsessed with acting.”
Storrie is nominated in the category alongside Michael J. Fox, Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater, Christopher McDonald, and Rob Reiner, who was nominated posthumously.
“[The nominees’] creativity and talent remind us why television remains one of our most powerful art forms,” Cris Abrego, Television Academy chair, said on Wednesday morning. “While these nominations recognize individual achievement, they also celebrate the collaborative spirit that defines our industry. Every nomination today is a result of countless people coming together to create work that moves us, entertains us, and, above all, inspires us.”
Storrie recently appeared for a guest star arc in season 19 of Criminal Minds: Evolution. The arc comes ahead of Heated Rivalry’s second season, which is set to begin filming this August.
“We’re filming this summer,” Storrie said when The Perfect Magazine asked when the next season would be. “So I don’t know how long you gotta wait after that. But it’s coming.”
The Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will air live on NBC and Peacock on Monday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
