2008 Heavy Metal Hit Ranked 'Saddest Rock Song' of All Time

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:19am

When it comes to soulful, aching rock ballads, even heavy metal bands have delivered some of the genre's most gut-wrenching lyrics. Among a list of popular contenders, Slipknot rose to the top, with their 2008 track earning recognition as one of the saddest songs ever released.

TheTopTens crafted a Top 10 list of the "saddest rock songs of all time," with fans being the masterminds behind the voting and giving the No.1 spot to Slipknot's "Snuff." Fans commented that it's "powerful" and "emotional" and guarantees to make anyone tear up hearing its lyrics.

"There is so much pain, sorrow, confusion, hatred, love, longing, betrayal, and truth in this song. It's so beautiful because it describes us as humans, it describes a depressed mindset. So many of the lyrics are painful, so many move us. This song is the most impactful you will ever find. But it's not a mournful song. It still has the sound of Slipknot, but just beautiful," said one fan.

Categorized as a ballad, the song was released in 2008 as the fifth and final single from Slipknot's fourth studio album, All Hope is Gone. It was a success immediately upon release, landing at No. 2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The song has some backstory, having been the last song with original bassist Paul Gray before his death months later, and the departure of Joey Jordison in 2013.

In prior interviews about the song, Jordison admitted that the lyrics were all frontman Corey Taylor's doing and calls it his "masterpiece". Though he rarely contributed to the band’s songwriting at the time, Taylor heard the track Gray and Jordison were developing, and laid down the vocals. Jordison later added the drums, and the next day, Corey was moved to tears after hearing the finished version.

Taylor told Kerrang! that he never expected the band to use the song and made it during one of the hardest times of his life. The lyrics are based on Taylor's divorce, talking about self-loathing and heartbreak. Even the song's music video is highly regarded as one of the most impactful.

The list also includes other hits like Pearl Jam's "Black," Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends," Metallica's "Unforgiven," Avenged Sevenfold's "I Won't See You Tonight Part 1," and Evanescence's "My Immortal."

The 'Fanciest' McDonald's Is Housed in a 1700s McMansion in This U.S. Town

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:15am

From its 1950s diner-era look—all shiny metal and bright golden arches—to today's sleek, greige makeover, McDonald's has had quite the transformation over the years. The iconic red-and-yellow logo has stuck around, but the buildings have cycled through decades of redesigns: think retro '70s and '80s earth-tone overload, then '90s and early 2000s white brick boxes with red roofs and those famous PlayPlaces you could spot right through the front window.

Where Can You Find the Fanciest McDonald's in the U.S.? View this post on Instagram

But one location has never followed the script. The "fanciest" McDonald's in the country lives in New Hyde Park, N.Y.—and it looks more like a historic mansion than a fast food joint. Housed inside the Denton House, the building dates back to 1795, when it was a farmhouse before later becoming a Georgian-style estate. When McDonald's bought the property in 1985, plans to tear it down sparked community outrage. Locals fought to save it and won, earning the home historic landmark status in 1988. The result? A burger spot aptly named the "McMansion" that touts serious old-school elegance.

The Transformation of the Denton House Into a McDonald's

McDonald's agreed to an extensive restoration, keeping the elegant exterior and many architectural details while adding a discreet drive-thru in the back. The restaurant opened in 1991, and today it looks much like the stately home it once was—complete with a winding portico, grand staircase and classic facade—even though the menu inside is just like any other McDonald's. Locals and visitors alike often call it one of the most beautiful McDonald's in the country, a quirky blend of historic preservation and fast food culture.

Step inside and it feels more manor house than McNuggets. A sweeping staircase rises beneath high ceilings, with exposed trusses and an open view to the second floor. Antique-style light fixtures line the walls, while gray, black and white walls and trim give the space a crisp, updated look. It's a far cry from the standard interstate drive-thru most of us know by heart.

What Do Locals and Tourists Have to Say About the Fanciest McDonald's?

Though this McDonald's has been around for decades, its very existence has recently resurfaced online—and the internet has plenty to say. Some people love that their hometown Mickey D's looks like a stately mansion, while others argue it's a questionable use of such a beautiful, historic building.

"This is less than 4 miles from me. I go there once in a while when I'm in the mood for a different kind of McDonald's ambiance. Sadly they wont let you go up the staircase and eat on the second floor anymore," said one local. "Been here!! So cool," exclaimed a fan. "I bet you the ice cream machine isn't broken," joked another person. "That was always the spot we did bday parties. I miss going there," another reminisced.

"It's a nice McDonald's, but it's not the fanciest by far IMO," exclaimed one person. Apparently, there are several McDonald's locations in the U.S. that are not the traditional brick-and-mortar shop. "There is one in Boulder City, NV that has crystal chandeliers, gold plated taps in the bathroom and beautiful irridesent tiles," said one person. "The one in Asheville, NC near the Vanderbilt Mansion is even more fancy," claimed another. "There was a fancy one on Wall St. in NYC. Not sure if it's still around," questioned one more.

Either way, it's a fun little detour if you ever find yourself passing the McMansion on Long Island. Even if you're not the biggest McDonald's fan, it's hard to argue with the novelty of grabbing fries inside a centuries-old mansion. It's not your average fast food run, and that's exactly the point.

1967 Hit Ranked ‘Best Psychedelic Rock Song’ of the ’60s

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:12am

Psychedelic rock emerged in the 1960s as a reaction to the use of psychedelic drugs and the influence it was having on music production at the time. The subgenre can be characterized by the use of electronic and/or non-Western instrumentation, the incorporation of different sound effects, and more unconventional song structures.

The late '60s gave us some of the best psychedelic rock songs by the biggest names in rock music at the time, like The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Collider has taken it upon themselves to rank the top 10 best psychedelic rock songs of the '60s to spotlight the biggest influencers of the era and recognize the long-lasting impact of the genre.

The Beatles had two songs make the list, including "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "A Day in the Life" from their hit album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). Ranked at No. 6 is Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower," which is a great representation of Hendrix's powerful guitar skills and how a guitar solo is capable of replicating psychedelic rock features.

RELATED: 1990 Hit Ranked Best ‘Hair Metal Guitar Solo’ of All Time

The No. 1 best psychedelic rock song of the 1960s, according to Collider, is "The End" (1967) by the legendary American rock band The Doors, who are another group well-known for their ties to popularizing the psychedelic rock genre.

American rock band The Doors mirror their looks for a photoshoot, 1967. They are vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger.

Photo by Mark and Colleen Hayward/Getty Images

"It may be the wildest ride here, from Jim Morrison's abstruse and scene-painting lyrics (open to a variety of interpretations) to its heavily trippy atmosphere," Collider writes. "There are so many elements at play, but Robby Krieger's guitar is probably the most important aspect of the track's overall vibe. The song has its moments of high-energy and low-energy, but it somehow never loses itself so completely as to feel cheap or gimmicky. This is a watershed moment in psychedelic rock, an epic that's so grand and mysterious that it's quite possibly The Doors' greatest song — as well as the best song of its genre and time."

"The End" is the final song on The Doors' self-titled debut album, and clocks at 11 minutes and 43 seconds long. Lead singer Morrison wrote the song about his breakup with his ex-girlfriend, but mentioned in a Rolling Stone interview in 1969 how the song's meaning evolves every time he listens to it.

"Every time I hear that song, it means something else to me. I really don’t know what I was trying to say. It just started out as a simple goodbye song," Morrison said. "Probably just to a girl, but I could see how it could be goodbye to a kind of childhood. I really don’t know. I think it’s sufficiently complex and universal in its imagery that it could be almost anything you want it to be."

The song continues to hold a legacy as not just one of the greatest psychedelic rock songs, but also one of the greatest rock songs in general. In their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, Rolling Stone put "The End" at No. 336, praising the song for its "exploration of sexual taboos."

The Kitchen Is the New Nightclub: Knorr Is Betting Your Best Wingman Is a Fry Pan

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:12am

Citing a growing demand for in-person connection over digital interaction, food brand Knorr announced a national partnership with Eventbrite to launch a series of singles-focused social events. The program, titled Serving Singles, seeks to leverage the rising popularity of "culinary confidence" as a primary factor in modern relationship compatibility.

The premise is almost nostalgic: knowing your way around a stove is the ultimate "green flag." According to recent data, 80% of Americans agree that cooking is the secret sauce to winning someone over. It seems that in 2026, a well-executed carbonara carries more social currency than a curated profile picture.

"In a swipe-heavy dating world, confidence in the kitchen is the ultimate flex," Melanie Capella, Knorr's Chief Growth Officer said in a statement. "Knorr is inspiring singles to trade swipes for bold flavor, because real chemistry starts with cooking."

Knorr’s campaign aims to cooking skills in a new series of events. (Photo: Knorr)

The initiative is more than a fleeting hashtag; it’s an IRL intervention. With Eventbrite finding that 79% of 18-to-29-year-olds are craving in-person events to combat a rising sense of isolation, Knorr is staging a series of "flavor-first" activations across five U.S. hubs. From cooking classes in New York and Miami to speed dating in Chicago and a comedy show in Houston, the goal is to facilitate connections that are "seasoned to perfection."

The aim is to emphasize "practical life skills." The data suggests that 47% of singles find a good cook attractive because it demonstrates maturity and independence. It’s a return to lo-fi living, a rejection of the high-speed, low-reward nature of contemporary life.

Knorr is also tapping into the "Date My Friend" social trend, enlisting influencers like Rodrigo Reyes and Joe Ferrucci to showcase their single besties’ culinary prowess.

In the end, the dating pool can be remarkably similar to a kitchen: it can be messy, unpredictable, and full of questionable ingredients. But as this campaign suggests, when the right elements come together under a bit of heat, the result is "pure magic." If you're tired of the drama of the apps, it might be time to find someone who commits to you and a killer meal. Who knows? Love could be on the menu.

Henry Winkler Recalls Ron Howard ‘Panicking’ in Early Days of 'Happy Days'

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:11am

In 1976, Happy Days was the top-rated show on television. Starring Ron Howard as Richie Cunningham, Henry Winkler as Arthur “Fonzie” Fonzarelli, as well as Anson Williams, Donny Most, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, and Erin Moran, the 1950s-set series premiered in 1974 on ABC. And while it wasn’t Howard’s first TV series—as a child actor in the 1960s, he appeared in more than 200 episodes of The Andy Griffith Show—it was his first foray in front of a live studio audience.

By its third season in 1975-76, Happy Days went from a filmed single-camera comedy to a three-camera sitcom shot in front of a live audience. In an interview, show creator Garry Marshall revealed to The Television Academy Foundation that there were scenes they “couldn't do anymore because we were three-camera.”

Speaking with Woman’s Worldin an interview published in February 2026, Winkler, 80, recalled the switchover from a filmed show to a live taping in front of an audience—and how acting pro Howard initially struggled.

“Ron Howard was one of the best acting partners I’ve ever had in my career,” Winkler told the outlet. “Now here’s a guy who has never done theater before. He’s only done film, and I was trained in theater, but Ron had never done it before, and was really nervous, especially in 1975 when we went from doing it like a little movie to in front of an audience.”

“He was panicking,” Winkler continued. “And I’m telling you, things would come to me during the show, and I would just do them. I would not stop my imagination. And Ron went wherever I went. It was uncanny, and you could not fake it. You couldn’t make it up.”

Henry Winkler lost his acting partner in 1980

Happy Days aired for 11 seasons, from 1974 to 1984. While he appeared as Fonzie in all 11 seasons, Howard left the hit series in 1980 to pursue what would become a successful career as a movie director.

Winkler told People magazine that he got the news about Howard's impending exit minutes before it was picked up in the press. “There was a phone booth right by the front door of stage 19,” the actor recalled. “They said, ‘Oh, the phone is for you, Henry.’”

He added that the phone call was from Howard, who told him, “It’s  going to come out in the press in about 10 minutes, but I wanted you to know first, I'm not coming back.”

“My first thought was, 'I'm going to die now,'" Winkler admitted. “My great acting partner on this show, my good friend, is no longer going to be here. My life is over.’”

Winkler then snapped out of it and told his longtime friend, “Ron, we've talked about this since the beginning. All you want to do is be a director. It's in your DNA. Go and be the best you can be, and I cannot wait to see what you do.' "

Of his lightning-in-a-bottle connection with Howard, Winkler said, “We just clicked as acting partners. When we worked together, there was something that happens out of the blue. We had a shorthand with the script. He went where I went, I went where he went, and it became something else.”

Goldfish’s New Collab Encourages Fans to Play With Their Food

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 9:01am

Goldfish is teaming up with Campbell's to reimagine a classic in ways fans probably never thought possible (if they ever even thought of it).

With at least four more weeks of winter upon us—at least according to that groundhog's prediction—there are plenty more days that call for a comforting meal of Goldfish crackers saturated in Campbell's tomato soup. The popular wintertime pairing is about to earn a whole lot more "smiles back," too, with the first-ever Campbell's x Goldfish Games.

TLDR: The two pantry staples want consumers to play with their food.

"Goldfish has always been about creating moments of joy and connection," Mike Fanelli, senior director, marketing at Goldfish, explained in a statement shared with Parade. "This collaboration reimagines family mealtime with a playful twist, turning a classic comfort food pairing into a chance to laugh, play, and make memories together."

Goldfish Teams Up With Campbell's Tomato Soup for the "Goldfish Games"

While it may sound like a subtle nod to the winter Olympics, the Campbell's x Goldfish Games are actually a series of games, according to the Feb. 18 press release. The two companies not only reimagined an iconic game everyone knows, but also developed one of their own that's fun for all ages.

Related: Goldfish Gets New ‘Seasoned’ Variations: A ‘Bold’ First

"There’s something special about the simple comfort of Campbell’s soup and Goldfish crackers – they just belong together," Becky Duke, senior brand director at Campbell’s, added. "With this collaboration, we wanted to give fans a new way to enjoy that classic pairing, turning the familiar into something fun and unexpected."

As part of the new collaboration, fans will soon be able to purchase two Campbell's x Goldfish Games: the reimagined "Fish in a Row" or brand-new "Soup Splashers."

Fish in a Row offers a "flavorful take on a connecting classic," per the official description. Players set the game above their bowl of Campbell’s soup and win when they line up four Goldfish crackers before their opponent. When they want to play again, they can "reset" the game by dropping the crackers into the soup below.

Campbell's x Goldfish Games: Fish in a Row

G

In Soup Splashers, players are trying to keep their fish afloat, balancing the Goldfish crackers on the fishbowl, or they’ll all splash into the Campbell’s soup below.

Campbell's x Goldfish Games: Fish in a Row (L), Soup Splashers (R).

G

While Goldfish crackers and Campbell's soup can be found at most retailers (big and small) nationwide, the two games will only be available via the official Campbell's x Goldfish Games website.

A limited number of daily drops will be released weekdays at 10:00 a.m. EST beginning today, Feb. 18, through Tuesday, Feb. 24. During this time, fans can pre-order either game for $19.99 while supplies last. Each game is sold separately and includes a package of the original Goldfish crackers and a can of Campbell’s tomato soup.

Given how quickly the limited-edition Goldfish car mats sold out last summer, fans looking to score the game (and included goodies) should set an alarm the day of the drop (and thereafter until they're either successful or give up).

‘Hart to Hart’ Stars Robert Wagner, 96, and Stefanie Powers, 83, Reunite and Snuggle up for His Birthday

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:38am

Hart to Hart was one of the hottest TV shows of the '80s, and its two main stars, Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers, are back together again.

Powers got her start in the entertainment industry in the series The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., and is best known for her role as Jennifer Hart on the classic mystery series. Wagner, who also starred in early series like It Takes a Thief and Switch, continued on TV more recently on Two and a Half Men and NCIS. He also had a successful film career, with roles in the Austin Powers trilogy and several other popular films. He's also widely known as the former husband of Natalie Wood. But the duo made waves on Hart to Hart as a wealthy couple who solve crimes. The series ran from 1979 until 1984, but spawned a series of made-for-TV movies.

These days, the duo occasionally reunites, particularly on Wagner's birthday. The actor recently turned 96, and Powers didn't miss an opportunity to reunite with her old friend.

"When Jonathan and Jennifer reunite, it’s always something special. ❤️ Thank you, Stefanie, for the beautiful birthday visit," Wagner captioned a sweet photo of the duo with their arms wrapped around each other.

In 2024, Powers and her Hart to Hart costar reunited for his 94th birthday. Pictured with her hand on his shoulder as he relaxed in a chair, it’s safe to say that this duo, who starred for five seasons on the beloved ABC mystery series, still have a friendship that’s going strong.

Dunkin’ Has a Cute Freebie in Store for Fans This Week

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:37am

Dunkin' is all about rewarding its customers this February, or so it would seem.

The revered international coffee chain started the month with free iced coffee and a '90s-style merch drop, which was almost immediately followed by an adorable new winter après-ski-inspired merch collection. Now, Dunkin' plans to give away a hot pink, branded mitten this Friday with select purchases.

Want one? Here's everything we know about Dunkin's free iced mitten promotion—including how to get yours.

Dunkin' Giving Away Free Mitten With Select Purchases This Friday

There's a long-running joke that suggests "true" iced coffee fans drink the ice-cold beverage in all weather conditions, including sub-freezing temperatures, which others find to be just plain wrong.

While it's all in good fun, Dunkin' has a solution for those who prefer not to drink iced beverages in cold weather because they can't bear carrying a cold drink—even if it's just from the pickup window to their cupholder.

According to an official statement shared with Parade, on Friday, Feb. 20, participating Dunkin' locations will give away left-handed mittens that are fully insulated and branded with the chain's logo and signature pink colorway. This makes grabbing your iced coffee, cold brew, refresher, or whatever a little less harsh on the hand you use when you roll up to the drive-thru.

"I’ll gladly take it!" one fan wrote in response to the news, calling it "So cute! 💖."

"And it’s pink! 💗💗💗," another celebrated.

Dunkin' Iced Coffee Glove

"Will it fit in my itsy bitsy teeny weeny Dunkin tote? 🤭," a third joked the limited-time freebie Dunkin' offered last month.

"Wow that good idea the glove," someone else said, suggesting that the chain should have made this available earlier. "But now weather getting bonito 🤔 lol."

"This shouldve been given out in January lol," another agreed.

"Idk why but I want this lol," someone else admitted. Likewise, a different Dunkin' fan joked, "I need it."

A few others were confused about why Dunkin' would only be giving out a single glove instead of a pair, and while the whole drive-thru explanation makes sense as a marketing campaign, some fans think it's "useless." Still, others argued the contrary, with a few left-handed folk entering the chat to say they're keeping the single mitten.

"Im a lefty and like to drink cold bevs outside," one shared. "I’ll be keeping this one."

"It’s a collectible folks, when they gave the donut bag out, it held a donut not ur groceries," someone else teased.

Nicole Curtis Breaks Silence After Backlash, Defends HGTV Career Impact in Emotional Post

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:35am

Days after backlash erupted over a resurfaced video clip, HGTV star Nicole Curtis is speaking out, defending the impact of her long-running renovation work while calling for “human connection” instead of online division.

An old clip resurfaced showing Curtis using a racial slur while filming Rehab Addict — a moment she had previously asked producers to delete. After the footage reemerged, backlash was swift, with fans expressing outrage, and HGTV ultimately canceled her show and removed past episodes from its platform.

Curtis quickly issued an apology, saying that the slur was not something she typically says, adding, “I want to be clear: the word in question is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been, and I apologize to everyone," she wrote at the time.

Days later, Curtis returned to Instagram with an emotional statement defending her work, highlighting the show’s community impact, and addressing the controversy. She cited "so many moments of kindness have come my way this week via my amazing family, my friends, my neighbors, my fans, our city leaders & A lot of folks that were in my DMs who chose to have calls with me to find a pathway of understanding in all of this."

Nicole Curtis

Curtis said Rehab Addict "brought approx 20 million dollars into distressed neighborhoods between Minneapolis and Detroit (even 6 episodes in Akron (Lebron work)saved so many historic properties, inspired saving of so many more and most importantly, to us we’ve raised money, awareness & change for pediatric cancer, military veterans, school programs, animal rescue, elderly (to name a few) as we’ve always said -you never have a bad day helping others and giving your time to those who need it."

Along with her small crew, Curtis recalled how she and her team continued their renovation work independently without network backing, emphasizing their commitment to preserving historic homes. She urged followers to move past online hostility, calling for empathy, real conversation, and respect, while condemning hateful behavior carried out in her name.

She ended her post with a comment to dispel misinformation spread. "Four years ago -I was not contracted to any network or show. (think free agent in sports) Any crew hired, paid by me, the footage is mine. My crew didn’t steal my footage. I don’t have “sets”. I own all my properties. In other words, no one is my “boss”, I’m the boss. I create product & sell the rights of it & my likeness for limited contracted use. Someone personal (not crew) had access, demanded $, I didn’t pay-here we are."

Lindsey Vonn Suffers Absolutely Devastating Loss After Her Olympic Crash

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:30am

Skier Lindsey Vonn is going through such a trying time in her life after first tearing her ACL after losing control of a jump in Switzerland on January 30 -- and then subsequently crashing during her downhill skiing run at the Winter Olympics on February 8. The incident resulted in a major tibia fracture requiring multiple surgeries.

She's been open and honest about her ongoing struggle, and on February 18, she revealed that she's experienced much more devastation over the past few weeks than anyone initially realized.

Sadly, her beloved dog Leo died, and as she explained in a new Instagram post, it happened just after her crash.

"The day I crashed, so did Leo. He had been recently diagnosed with lung cancer (he survived lymphoma a year and a half ago) but now his heart was failing him. He was in pain and his body could no longer keep up with his strong mind."

View this post on Instagram

Vonn continued the post with a heartbreaking tribute to her fur baby:

"As I laid in my hospital bed the day after my crash, we said goodbye to my big boy. I had lost so much that meant something to me in such a short amount of time. I can’t believe it. My boy has been with me since my second ACL injury, when I needed him most. He held me on the sofa as I watched the Sochi Olympics. He lifted me up when I was down. He laid by me, and cuddled me, always making me feel safe and loved. We have been through so much together in 13 years."

Condolences and prayers are pouring in from Vonn's followers.

The Instagram account @magnusthetherapydog said, "So sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking 💔"

Another person added, "Ohhhhh sweet baby! My doggies are there to play and welcome your baby ☺️🙏🐶💖"

And someone else said, "So sorry 😞 he is with you 🙏✨🐾… you are going to come through this with his guardianship from heaven. Much love and healing prayers 🙏"

Making the loss of Leo even more painful is the fact that Vonn lost another dog, Lucy, in March of last year. When Lucy crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Vonn said, "Nine years ago, she came into my life, and from the very first moment until the very last, she brought so much light and love to me and everyone she met. We traveled the world together, skied, hiked, biked, explored, went down waterfalls, up in air balloons, to the Olympics… we went on SO many incredible adventures together, and created so many memories that I am beyond lucky to have shared with her."

Her third dog was adopted in August of 2025, Chance, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

1977 Hit Ranked 'Best Rock Song' of the '70s

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:30am

The rock scene in the 1970s was defined by its notable diversity, spanning the emergence of hard rock and heavy metal, the theatrical spectacle of glam rock and not to mention the rise of punk rock in the mid-to late ‘70s.

As a result, the era produced remarkable bands that still remain influential to this day. These include legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols and key figures such as Freddie Mercury, Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Osbourne and more.

However, when it comes to the quintessential anthem of the era, David Bowie’s song “Heroes” stands as one of the greatest rock songs of the 1970s, as ranked by Collider.

In a list reported by the publication, it described the 1977 track as “Bowie’s defining song” and the singer-songwriter’s exceptional work.

“Heroes” is the title song of his twelfth studio album and his second album in his "Berlin Trilogy."

Co-written by the music legend and Brian Eno, the song was sparked by a significant moment as he gazed out of Hansa Studio's window and saw a couple kissing beside the Berlin Wall.

“I always said it was a couple of lovers by the Wall that prompted the idea for Heroes,” the late musician told Classic Rock in 2015, as cited by Louder Sound. He later revealed that the couple he mentioned was the renowned record producer Tony Visconti.

“Actually, it was [Bowie producer] Tony Visconti and his girlfriend,” he told the outlet, adding, “Tony was married at the time, so I couldn’t talk about it. But I can now say that the lovers were Tony and a German girl [Antonia Maass] that he’d met while we were in Berlin. I think possibly his marriage was in the last few months. And it was very touching because I could see that Tony was very much in love with this girl, and it was that relationship which sort of motivated the song.”

Upon its release, “Heroes” peaked at No. 24 in the U.K. Singles Chart and re-entered the rankings following his death in 2016, reaching a new peak at No. 12.

After a decade, it returned to multiple U.K. charts, even climbing to No. 34 on the Official Singles chart. This was driven by the song’s feature in the Stranger Thingsseason finale.

As 'Star Trek' Nears 60, Showrunners Say It Must 'Bring Something Back'—Here’s What They Mean

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:20am

Star Trek has long embraced the belief that we can do better, even when the world insists otherwise. And as the franchise nears its 60th anniversary, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is making that idea its driving force. As described, it's a new generation stepping into a future they didn’t break, but still have to fix.

In a MovieWeb interview by Joe Deckelmeier, showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau described Starfleet Academy as a series built on the emotional reality young people are living with right now. 'Star Trek always reflects a moment, right?' Kurtzman said. 'And the moment that we’re dealing with right now is a generation that’s inheriting a very divided world.' The cadets at the heart of the show are 'inheriting a broken world that they didn’t create,' as Scott put it.

Then she added what she thinks is the key to Trek. ‘In the best tradition of Star Trek,’ she said,’ ‘we need to carry the mantle into the future and bring that optimism back.’

Kurtzman didn’t hesitate: 'Absolutely, 100%.'

Kurtzman explained that if you’re going to tell a story about young characters, it has to follow Trek’s long tradition of allegory: 'In the best tradition of Star Trek, it better be allegorical and it better mirror what’s going on now.' The challenge for these new cadets is deciding what Starfleet should mean in a fractured era. 'This idea that they have to carry the mantle into the future and bring that optimism back felt extremely topical,' he said.

Landau, stepping into a universe with six decades of canon, said her personal rule was to protect the feeling of Trek while still expanding what it can be. 'Everything I’ve learned as a writer and about storytelling really comes from Star Trek,' she said, but she also wanted to 'push forward what is possible in Trek,' whether that meant 'an episode that feels stylistically bold' or 'doing something with a character we’ve never done before.' Representation, she added, was foundational to Gene Roddenberry’s original vision, and it remains a priority to 'continue to do that to push that forward.'

Oh, and that moment in a recent episode that fans have been buzzing about? Scott asked about the audio tied to Avery Brooks in Episode 5. Kurtzman and Landau confirmed it wasn’t pulled from Deep Space Nine, and it wasn’t newly recorded dialogue either. With Brooks’ permission, they used 'a piece of spoken word poetry that he recorded himself,' Landau said.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is streaming exclusively on Paramount+. Season 1 premiered January 15, 2026, dropped two episodes on launch day, and continues with weekly Thursday releases through March 12, 2026.

1942 Hit That Became the Best-Selling Physical Single Was Recorded in Just 18 Minutes

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:19am

Bing Crosby’s "White Christmas" is one of the most recognizable holiday songs. Aside from being a staple on any Christmas musicplaylist, the song holds a very impressive record. The song has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide and it holds the Guinness World Record as the best-selling physical single of all time.

Written by the iconic Irving Berlin, "White Christmas" was recorded in just 18 minutes.

"I just wrote the best song I've ever written – heck, I just wrote the best song that anybody's ever written," Berlin said of the song, according to the Guinness World Records website.

Folks first heard the track in the movie "White Christmas," which was released in July 1942. The song was No. 1 on the National List of Best-Selling Retail Records chart and it made the Billboard Hot 100 in October of that year.

"White Christmas" saw 50,000,000 units sold, which earned its spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012.

"With all of these other memories that people have of Christmas, whether it's being piped in while you're shopping, or it's playing on the radio in the car as you're driving to visit family — it's easy to kind of separate it from its history. People develop new memories with it. People have their own ideas of what the song represents, so it's just incredibly complex," scholar Brynn Shiovitz told NPR of the song.

"White Christmas" is still popular decades after its released. In fact, the song found itself on Spotify's Top 20 most listened to Christmas songs globally, landing at No. 14 on the list.

Keurig Dr Pepper Just Confirmed the Return of 5 Beloved Sodas

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 8:01am

This year is proving to be the year to be a fan of Keurig Dr Pepper and its portfolio of soda pop.

The beverage titan has already started the year off strong with several licensing agreements, including the release of the all-new "one-of-a-kind" Dr Pepper Dippin' Dots and highly anticipated Dr Pepper Tic Tacs.

Now, in an even sweeter twist, Keurig Dr Pepper has officially unveiled the timeline in which fans can expect to see several returning favorites from A&W Root Beer, Canada Dry, Dr Pepper and 7UP on shelves—and it's all happening relatively soon.

Keurig Dr Pepper Reveals 2026 Soda Flavor Lineup—Here's When to Expect Those Returning Faves on Shelves

On Wednesday, Keurig Dr Pepper officially announced it's bringing back its ice cream-inspired A&W Root Beer line, Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut and 7UP Shirley Temple at different points this year. According to a press release shared with Parade, all three returning soft drinks will once again be available as limited-time offers.

A&W Root Beer Float

Another A&W Root Beer dessert spinoff is heading our way! Last year, A&W debuted an ice cream sundae flavor (which actually first surfaced online in late 2024, a full four months before its release) thanks to some overly excited fans. Those same people will likely be pleased to know that a new soda inspired by another ice cream treat (a root beer soda float) will be available for a limited time in both full and zero sugar flavors beginning in July.

Canada Dry Fruit Splash Strawberry

Canada Dry Fruit Splash Strawberry is also making a big comeback—this time, sold on its own for the first time ever. The fruity favorite first debuted in the summer edition variety packs sold at Sam's Club, and it was so good that some fans admitted to stockpiling the multipack just for this flavor. But all that changes this month, as the ginger ale recipe featuring a splash of strawberry juice is launching nationwide, permanently, as a regular and sugar-free soda.

Dr Pepper Creamy Coconut

A few weeks from now, Dr Pepper fans will once again find the creamy, coconut-flavored beverage originally released as a summer 2024 exclusive, but has been so popular that the brand has had to bring it back two years in a row. Many fans compare the soda to Almond Joy candy with "distinctive" Dr Pepper flavors, and it will be available in full and zero sugar options beginning this April.

7UP Shirley Temple and 7UP Endless Summer Mandarin Orange

Rounding out the sodas are two returning favorites from 7UP: Shirley Temple and Endless Summer. This year's Endless Summer is launching with a new citrus-forward flavor profile featuring a "bright" mix of mandarin and classic lemon-lime. It's expected to return as a seasonal flavor ahead of the summer. While no exact release date was shared, last year's Endless Summer (a watermelon variety) was spotted on shelves in April, so we would expect the same this year. That said, it is exclusive to Kroger.

Finally, 7UP Shirley Temple will once again be available as a winter holiday exclusive.

Which Keurig Dr Pepper soda flavor are you most excited for this year? Let us know in the comments!

In addition to chocolate chip, current flavors also include salted caramel, toffee crunch and a partnership with M&Ms.

Fans can get their hands on the collab in the snack aisles at select retailers nationwide or online at BrownieBrittle.com

Dunkin's Love for Brownie Flavors

The collaboration is going to be especially indulgent for those who wait all year for the return of the beloved Brownie Batter flavor.

The Valentine’s Day treat is a heart-shaped donut filled with brownie batter-flavored butter crème and topped with chocolate icing and red, pink and white sprinkles, which officially made its way back to menus on Jan. 28 for a limited time.

Dunkin' has been staying on top of keeping its menu fresh, tapping into a growing trend of added protein, including a new Protein Milk and a limited-time collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion

No. 1 Hit Song of 1976 Was Music Legend’s Clever Response to Critics

Wed, 02/18/2026 - 7:56am

In 1976, Paul McCartney was flying high with his band Wings. The post-Beatles band, which featured McCartney and his wife, Linda, as well as bandmates Denny Laine and Denny Seiwell, recorded the hits “My Love,” “Live and Let Die,” “Jet,” and “Band on the Run.” In 1976, Wings hit gold with the single “Silly Love Songs.”

The song, penned by McCartney and his wife, appeared on the 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound. Released on April 1, 1976, “Silly Love Songs” hit  No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 22, 1976, and remained there for five weeks. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks and ranked as the No. 1 song of 1976 on Billboard’s year-end chart.

John Lennon criticized some of McCartney’s songwriting

While McCartney and his Beatles bandmate John Lennon were one of the greatest songwriting duos of all time, Lennon wasn’t always a fan of McCartney’s songwriting.

In a 1980 interview with writer David Sheff, Lennon claimed McCartney tried to copy Simon & Garfunkel with some of his work. Of the song “Let it Be,”  Lennon complained, “That's Paul. What can you say? Nothing to do with The Beatles. It could've been Wings. I don't know what he's thinking when he writes 'Let It Be'."

“I think it was inspired by ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters [sic],’” Lennon added in the interview, per American Songwriter. “That’s my feeling …I know he wanted to write a ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

Paul McCartney fired back with a hit song

In the 2021 book The Lyrics, McCartney called out criticism of his songwriting, most notably love songs, as he defended "Silly Love Songs."

“There were accusations in the mid-1970s, including one from John, that I was just writing ‘silly love songs,'" McCartney wrote. “I suppose the idea was that I should be a bit tougher, a bit more worldly. But then I suddenly realized, that’s exactly what love is. It’s worldly. ‘Some people want to fill the world/With silly love songs’. I’d been given that reputation, and I had to stand up for it.”

McCartney added that he refused to abandon songs about love because he was lucky enough to have found love in his life.

McCartney also spoke about the criticism he received in an interview with Billboard. “Over the years, people have said, ‘Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he’s so soppy at times,’” he shared in 2001. “I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like ’em, other people like ’em, and there’s a lot of people I love — I’m lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that 'you' may call them silly, but what’s wrong with that?”

“The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy,”  he explained. “The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they’ve just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they’ll say to me, 'I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! I see what you were doing!’”

Fruit of the Loom has been providing some of the most reliable basics for over 170 years at this point, and the label still has some of the best you can get. These sweats are no exception, and they’re a steal on Amazon at the moment.

The $19 Fruit of the Loom Eversoft Sweatpants are down to just $12 at Amazon. Out of the 12 colorways that currently have healthy stock, shoppers will find that most are discounted to the lowest price, while others now between $13 and $29.

Built for everyday wear, these sweats are crafted with a 60/40 cotton polyester blend (Fruit of the Loom’s in-house EverSoft fabric) that stays soft even after tons of washes. An elastic waistband and quick-cord drawstring give you a custom fit, and the banded cuffs lock in heat. On the sides, you get deep hand pockets for essentials, and the double-needle stitching adds durability.

The most helpful reviewer ended up grabbing these for a Halloween costume, but loved them so much because “the fabric material is comfy and soft,” and ended up using them after they dressed up. Even at this price range, the quality you’re getting is solid, confirmed by one shopper who wrote, “The quality is more than I expected.” As for the comfort, another reviewer commented that the pants are “very soft and comfortable.”

While these are technically men’s sweatpants, they really don’t differ much from the women’s version, and you can just size down if you prefer a more snug fit. One woman who picked these up wrote, “Honestly, these are my new go-to pants for everything — cozy, cute, and practical!” She also said that she loves how roomy the pockets are, as they actually have enough room to hold your phone without it falling out.

Simple yet still high quality, the Fruit of the Loom Eversoft Sweatpants are ready to go for just $12. Stock looks solid now, but these deals tend to sell out quickly, so you should grab a pair that fits while you still can.
