William ‘Bill’ Hockenberry

William “Bill” Hockenberry, age 78, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton.

William Edward was born on February 10, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, to the late Orville and Beulah Hockenberry. He was one of five children born to Orville and Beulah. Bill grew up and attended school in St. Louis. He served in the United States Army, where he eventually graduated High School. Bill worked for the City of St. Louis for many years. He was united in marriage to Flora Jane Conaway in the fall of 1962. To this union, a son, Robert, was born. After many years apart, Bill reunited with Flora and they resided in Sullivan. In 1997, he retired from General Motors. Bill enjoyed puzzles, riddles and music. He loved football and debates with is grandkids. Bill also loved reading and studying the Bible; his faith was important to him. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife, Flora J. Hockenberry of Sullivan; one son, Robert Hockenberry and wife, Robin, of Sullivan, MO; three stepsons, Frank Trease of Cahokia, IL, Phillip Ashbaugh, and David Ashbaugh; one stepdaughter, Lisa Ashbaugh; four grandchildren, Charles Hockenberry and wife, Kailynn, of Port Orchard, WA, Roxanna Hills and husband, Jerry, of Sullivan, MO, Lisa Hockenberry of Sullivan, MO, and Phillip Hockenberry and wife, April of Baldwin, MI; eleven great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Beulah (Baker) Hockenberry; three sisters, Betty Jane, Dorothy Jean, and Mary Lou Hockenberry; one brother, Thomas Orville Hockenberry and wife, Nancy Jane; and his wife of 34 years, Goldie Lavern Hockenberry.

Prior to his physical death, William arranged his own layout, funeral and burial. He wanted to thank everyone who expressed their respect at his passing or who is here to attend his funeral and burial.  And to those serving as pallbearers, William wanted to especially thank you for your assistance.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Funeral Services were conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Martin as the officiant. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan, MO.
