Walter E. Woods

Walter E. Woods, 77, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at his home.

Walter Everett was born on December 12, 1939 in Leasburg, MO to William Everett and Josephine E. (Brown) Woods. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from December 4, 1961 to November 20, 1964. On June 5, 1965 Walter was united in marriage to Phyllis Tourville at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan. He was employed by Pea Ridge Mine for 13 years, as a mechanic for Bourbon School District for 24 years and by Sullivan School District for two years. Walter became a Christian just two years after getting married. Together, he and Phyllis raised their family in church and were members of First Southern Baptist Church in Leasburg. In his spare time, Walter enjoyed woodworking, farming and vegetable gardening, which he generously shared with everyone.

Walter is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Tourville) Woods of Sullivan; two children, Donald Woods of Jefferson City, MO; and Mary Jo Perez and husband Shawn of Lexington, TN; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Pratt and fiancé Cammy Pace of Jackson, TN; Jordan Perez of Lexington, TN; and Dalton Perez and wife Claire Pierce-Perez of Lexington, TN; one sister, Sue King and husband James of Leasburg; one sister-in-law, Virginia Woods of Sullivan; special friends, Robert and Fern Cain of Sullivan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Josephine E. (Brown) Woods and one brother, Bennie Woods.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Terry King officiating. Interment followed at I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan with Full Military Honors.

Visitation was held from 4:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home and from 12 noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Memorials to Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association are appreciated.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
