Velma M. Madden

Velma M. Madden, age 95, of Bourbon, MO, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home. 

Velma Mae White was born on October 31, 1922 to the late James I. and Ina E. (Birdsong) White, in Murphysboro, IL. She grew up and attended school in Maplewood, MO. Velma was united in marriage to Thomas Madden on April 22, 1950 in Pocahontas, AR. Following Tom’s service in Korea, their daughter, Joanne was born. They resided in and raised their family in Hazelwood. After retirement, they followed their family to the Bourbon area in 1994. Velma enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren; they were her life. She loved flowers and gardening and enjoyed annual reunions with Tom’s G-3-1-K Marine family.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Joanne Barclay and husband David of Bourbon; two sisters, Verna Laffold of St. Peters, MO and Betty Wesley of Warrenton, MO; one sister-in-law, Reve Madden of Bridgeton, MO; four grandchildren, Chris Conlee and husband Scott of Steelville, MO, Cari White and Cole Ahrens of Bourbon, MO, Chad Barclay and wife Christine of Bourbon and Colleen Waymon and husband Samuel of Bourbon; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Madden; her parents, James I. and Ina E. (Birdsong) White; and two sisters, Marie Sewell and Mickey Kennedy.

Funeral Services were conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Samuel Waymon and Pastor John Blackmore officiating. Interment will follow in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
