Thomas ‘Wayne’ Long

Thomas “Wayne” Long was born on August 30, 1928 in Sullivan, MO, the son of Daniel I. Long and Amelia J. (Benson) Long. He grew up and attended Sullivan Schools and graduated in 1946 as president of his class.

Wayne was married to Joan Christian on October 2, 1948 and they were blessed with three children: Karen, Douglas and Mark. As a young man, he worked at Wallick Cleaners and then worked at Ramsey Corporation until 1955 when he moved his family to Concord, CA. He then worked for Pacific Gas and Electric until 1982 when he returned to Sullivan. Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Sullivan. 

Wayne was well known in the area for his bubbly and humorous personality. He will be greatly missed.

Wayne is survived by three children:  Karen Ray and husband, David, of Springfield, MO, Douglas Long and wife, Lisa, of West Linn, OR, and Mark Long and wife, Stacie, of Antioch, CA; his sister, Pat Thomas of Ballwin, MO; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews;  his special friend, Shirley Summers, other relatives and friends. 

Wayne donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Sullivan on August 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. Wayne's family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m.
