Thelma Marie Jones-Hornaday
Thelma Marie Jones-Hornaday, 91, Springfield, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 in her home. She was born November 24, 1926 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Joseph Peter and Bertha Elizabeth Gauzy. Thelma was the oldest of 5 children. She graduated from Sullivan High School in Sullivan, MO. She retired in 1988 after 36 years with McDonnell-Douglas. Thelma has resided in Springfield since 1988 and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Hornaday, Jr., one son, James Leo Cunio, two brothers and one sister.
Thelma is survived by her son and his wife, Ray E. “Gene” and Carol Cunio; a step-son, Richard (Teresa) Hornaday; two step-daughters, Lisa Swanson and Betsy (Brad) Dimmel; one brother, Jerry (Dorothy) Gauzy; nine grandchildren, Tina (Roddy) Dowell, Michelle (Blake) Schowe, Kelly (Mike) Fancher, Brian (Jessica) Cunio, Norman Cunio, Regina (Jim) Bush, Kimberly (Jason) Hurt, Rebecca Cunio and Jamie Cunio; four step-grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several other loving family and friends.
Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 in Immaculate Conception Church with Father Thomas P. Kiefer celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 5to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
