Sharon D. Oldham

Sharon D. Oldham, 75, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by her family.

Sharon was born on January 21, 1942 in Kennett, Missouri to Henry S. Swader and Wilma Fuller Swader. She was raised by Grand Daddy and Granny Fuller. Wilma married James Elliott and had five more children; Ruby, James, Mark, Benjamin and Joseph. Sharon was united in marriage to Ralph L. Oldham on October 7, 1961 and they were blessed with two children, Cherri and Kevin. Ralph was tragically killed in an airplane accident on December 18, 1970. Sharon picked up the pieces of her life and raised her children with strength, determination and the help of the Lord. Sharon was a devoted Christian and Baptist through and through. She attended First Baptist in Sullivan and faithfully took her place in “her pew” each week.

  1. was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 20 years and at the age of 60 received her Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. Sharon loved history and was a Civil War buff. She was also a big Elvis fan and loved his movies and singing. Branson was Sharon’s “happy place,” and she had her own special hotel that she always stayed. The family was relieved when it was destroyed by a tornado.

Most of all Sharon was a wonderful Mom and Grandma, not just to her children but to anyone who needed her love and attention. She was witty and had a dry sense of humor but could also put you in your place with just a “Look.” Sharon was a wonderful cook and she loved Christmas and always made it so special, including the reading of the Christmas story from Luke 2. She will be remembered always by her family, adopted family, church family and many wonderful friends. The Double Barrel Pistol is gone on to her reward, but never forgotten.

She is survived by her children; Cherri Fuchs of Shawnee, Kansas; Kevin Oldham and wife, Brandy, of Palmer, Alaska; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Fuchs) Filali -Moutei of Denver, Colorado, Kyle Fuchs and wife, Nicolette, of Lee Summit, Missouri, Ashley Andrus and Taylor Oldham of Palmer, Alaska, Alex Hathman of Sullivan and Elizabeth Hathman of Los Angeles, California; two great-grandchildren, Swayde and Sturling Fuchs of Lee Summit, Missouri; brothers and sisters, James Elliott, Jr. and wife, Audrey, of Pacific, Missouri, Mark Elliott of Doniphan, Missouri, Ruby Stratton of Doniphan, Missouri, Shirley Lambert of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Gary Lambert and wife, Eve, of Mountain Home, Arkansas; great-aunt Lurline (Nanny) Dearing of Mountain Home, Arkansas; special ex son-in-law, Steve Fuchs of Blue Springs, Missouri; many adopted kids and grandkids; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many wonderful and supportive friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Henry S. Swader and Wilma and James Elliott; her husband, Ralph L. Oldham; two brothers, Benjamin and Joseph Elliott.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Chester Lahmann and Pastor Ted Hurley officiating. Interment followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.

Memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund are appreciated.
