Ruby Witt, age 92 of Lebanon, MO, formerly of Sullivan, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ruby G. Williams was born in Jadwin, MO, on Jan. 17, 1928, to Oliver and Ada Mae (Thompson) Williams. She attended and graduated from Sullivan High School, and was named valedictorian of the class of 1947. Ruby was married to Walter Witt right out of high school. They made their home in Desoto, MO for about five years, then moved to Watson Road in Sullivan, where they made their lifelong home.

When her children started grade school, Ruby became employed as a cook in the high school cafeteria, where she remained for over 25 years. She was the baker and made yeast breads, cookies and cakes.

Ruby loved to read and instilled the importance of education in her children. Her hobby was collecting cook books. Every year she would make Christmas candy and cookies to hand out as presents. She even won first place in a contest for her buttermilk candy.

In 1985, Ruby took her first and only plane ride, when she and Walter visited Nancy and Dale in California. Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church in Sullivan for over 65 years. She taught in the youth department in the 1950’s and years later, she taught the Ladies Class for a number of years. Ruby was also a part of the women’s group, which met monthly. She had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Wyoming with her husband, Walter, and grandson, Joe.

Ruby is survived by her children, Nancy LaChance & husband, Dale, of Lebanon, MO, Paul Witt & wife, Sharon, of Sullivan, & Tim Witt & wife, Channe, of New Edinburg, AR; ten grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2010, Walter Witt: an infant son; her parents, Oliver and Ada Williams; and two brothers, Herschel and Melvin Williams.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Chester Lahmann officiating. Interment will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.
