Rose Mary Cook, of Sullivan, MO., passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020, peacefully in her sleep at the age of 92 in the home of her daughter, Barbara Benton.

Rose Mary Mitchell was born on October 18, 1927, in St. Louis, MO., to George and Della (Asher) Mitchell. She was raised in Webster Groves and attended the Goodall School. Rose was blessed with four children—Barb, Kathy, Chris, and Becky—and she mothered many more. She raised her family in St. Clair, Kirkwood, and Sullivan. The family settled in Sullivan in 1963, where she remained until her passing.

Rose lived a life made remarkable by the experiences and relationships that filled it. She felt fortunate to be born to parents whom she admired and loved deeply. She was close with her many brothers and sisters and together they made mischief, laughter, and memories that would be passed on to, and cherished by, the generations that followed. In her youth, Rose excelled in school, danced ballet, loved fashion, went to the movie theater as often as she could, worked hard both inside and outside of the home, and attended USO dances. During her working years, she held many positions, but the position closest to her heart (and she had a big heart) was as a caregiver to others.

Rose will be remembered for her quick wit, determination, and generosity. Rose was skilled at cooking and was well known for her green thumb. She loved flowers, watching birds from her porch, crocheting, and reading. Rose was a woman of faith and when her health permitted, she attended Cuba Church of Christ. She lived all stages of her life with remarkable grace and humor. She was a beloved member of her family and community and will be greatly missed by so many.

Rose is survived by three daughters, Barbara Benton and husband, Kenneth, of Sullivan, MO., Kathy McCluggage and husband, Wayne, of Laddonia, MO., and Becky Orton and husband, John, of Cuba, MO.; 13 grandchildren; 31 greatgrandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Oval Cook; her son, George “Chris” Cook; great-great-grandson, Chandler Werley; her parents; five sisters, Norma, Nora, Virginia, Juanita, and Vivian; and four brothers, Elmer, Willard, Buck, and Sonny.

Private Graveside services was held 1 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2020, at Prospect Cemetery in St. Clair, MO., with Mr. John Orton officiating.
